The family of blogger and activist Ndiangui Kinyagia has revealed the details of their last conversation before his phone was switched off and he went missing.
Kinyangia shared a ‘timetable’ for protests scheduled for Wednesday, June 25, which included a plan to match to State House, declaration of a new republic and formation of a transition council.
The 35-year-old went missing on Saturday, June 21, after officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) surrounded his apartment for over nine hours with ten Subarus.
His mother, Margaret Wamaitha said she felt danger even before he was abducted.
Wamaitha said she tried reaching him through a phone call, but he was offline.
She however was able to talk to him via a Whatsapp call and Kinyagia said he switched his phone off but was available through the platform.
That was the last time Wamaitha talked to her son.
She tried reaching Kinyangia at around 1pm but his phone was unreachable even on WhatsApp.
“I felt his phone was off and I panicked because I have never seen his phone off. I called him on WhatsApp because of the panic, and I asked him why his phone was off. He told me that he had put it off for one and half an hour, but he was on and I could call him on WhatsApp,” Wamaitha said.
Detectives Arrived in Subarus
His sister, Njeri Kinyangia, said the detectives broke into his house after hours of fights with the caretaker.
Njeri said the detectives arrived in 10 Subarus and camped at the building from 2pm to 9pm on Saturday.
They broke into the house and seized two laptops, two phones and two passports.
“10 Subarus had to camp at the area from 2pm on Saturday and they tried to forcefully enter the building, but the caretaker had requested them to identify themselves,” Njeri said
“They argued until around 9pm when they broke into the house and they took his personal effects.”

Family Ask Police to Return Ndiangui Kinyagia
Njeri said they are law-abiding citizens and that is why they decided to follow the due process.
She asked those who took Kinyangia to follow the legal process if they feel wronged by his sentiments.
“If anyone has been aggrieved by whatever he has posted, let them follow the due process,” Njeri said.
Besides, Wamaitha pleaded with the security agencies to return his son home.
“We are praying that the police are going to give me my son. The DCI should produce my son from where you took him,” she said.

LSK Condemns the Incident
Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo said a report was filed at Kinoo Police Station, and an inventory of seized items submitted.
Odhiambo said the incident bears the hallmarks of an enforced disappearance and a possible unlawful arrest or detention.
She explained that LSK views Kinyagia’s disappearance as a grave violation of constitutional rights and a direct attack on the rule of law in Kenya.
“We are demanding immediate and transparent action from the authorities. We call on any individual with relevant information no matter how small, to come forward,” Odhiambo said.
She affirmed that LSK will not relent until Advocate Ndiangui Kinyagia is safely accounted for and those responsible are held to full account.
