Ministry of Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Monday, September 25 responded to critics condemning his Friday visit at the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) offices in Nairobi.
In a statement on his X account, Murkomen defended his actions saying he stormed the offices because he had run out of patience.
“Everything will be sorted in the next two weeks. I have been patient with the institution, but I had to press the reset button,” he explained.
Moreover, the CS vowed to continue with the rigorous approach even though there were parties who were not happy about it.
“Your friend Ahmed Nasir is not very happy with that approach, but I had to do it,” Murkomen wrote while responding to X user Mohamed Weliye who complained that he had not received his driving license from NTSA.
Also, the Roads and Transport CS expressed optimism that his aggressive move would improve the mode of services offered to Kenyans in his ministry.
“I hope the move will restore sanity. It’s not my wish to micromanage but re-booting the system is my job,” he said.
He acknowledged that it was not his duty to nitpick but affirmed that he still had a role to play.

Ahmed Nasir Criticizes CS Murkomen
Senior Counsel Ahmed Nasir Abdullahi hit out at CS Murkomen and Interior CS Kithure Kindiki on Sunday, September 24 over the recent ambush of offices in their respective ministries.
“When you have two senior Cabinet Secretaries storming offices and workstations of clerks in their ministries and addressing mundane issues of driver’s licenses, logbooks, police clearance certificates, passports etc… issues routinely handled by entry level clerks in the ministries then you sadly realize that the system is broken, and Kenya is not delivering for the common man or woman,” read the statement in part.
According to the lawyers, the two CSs have been conducting duties which are ideally meant for junior staffers in their ministries, at the expense of pressing matters in the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Taking to his X account, Nassir said it is not the duty of a minister to address these pressing but trivial issues, noting that there are 10 to 15 levels of officers between the ministers and the clerks they are supervising.

“Ministers should ensure that the system works by ensuring that everyone in charge of the 15 levels between them and the clerks work. How can all the 15 levels fail in a ministry?” he added.
Kipchumba Murkomen Storms NTSA Offices
The CS on Friday September 22 visited NTSA Inspection and Printing Centre Headquarters in Upper hill where he decried poor service delivery.
Furthermore, Murkomen directed the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to clear the backlog in printing driving licenses, logbooks and digital number plates and issue them to citizens in two weeks
“To my dismay, I noted that the performance at the center was below par and did not meet the expectations of the people of Kenya,” he said
CS Murkomen in a statement said he would personally oversee the reforms to ensure the authority streamlines its service delivery to Kenyans.
“To quickly resolve this issue, I will personally supervise the processing, printing and delivery of Driving Licenses, logbooks and digital number plates, starting today, to ensure Kenyans get better services and value for money,” the transport minister said.
