Uganda President Yoweri Museveni has showered his wife the first lady Mama Janet Kainembabazi Kataaha Museveni with praises as she turned 76 years old.
While celebrating her birthday, Museveni lauded Janet for her unique role in the family when she went into exile with their young children between 1981 and 1986.
He described the First Lady as a ‘God-given comrade-in-arms’ who he has spent nearly 51 years with.
“Greetings. Good news. Today, the 24th of June, the Managing Director of “the Museveni Incorporated”, the Matriarch of the Museveni group, the mother, the grandmother, my dear wife, Mama Janet Kainembabazi Kataaha Museveni, has turned 76 years of age, “he said.
The children include Muhoozi who was only 6 years old then, Natasha, Patience, and Diana who was 6 months old.

The Uganda Head of state said Janet had to carry all the burdens of the family while in exile until they relocated to Sweden where the system was very friendly.
“Systems do not always work well. She had to carry all the burden until we relocated to Sweden where the system was very friendly,” he said.
“While our family had been in exile before (1971-1979), I had been with them in Tanzania-coming and going,” Museveni added.

He added that by that time, he was well-known and had many African friends like Samora Machel, Shamuyarira, Muammar Gaddafi, friends in the USA, late Kenya president Daniel Moi and many others.
He further thanked God who gave him Mama Janet to give him a family even as he wandered around as a freedom fighter.
“Praised be the Lord who helped us to navigate through so many challenges and gave us so many blessings,” Museveni said.
“I refer to her as the Managing Director, because while all of us are shareholders and Directors in Museveni Incorporated, she is the Managing Director.”

Uganda Head of State on Exile
Museveni also saluted the Swedish for supporting his family between 1983 and 1986.
“I salute Ambassador Mirjam Blaak for making the arrangements. I thank God who gave me Mama Janet to give me a family even as I wandered around as a freedom fighter,” he stated.
He went into exile in 1971 Tanzania when Prime Minister Milton Obote was overthrown by Idi Amin.
Later that year, after Idi Amin’s coup, Museveni was instrumental in the formation of FRONASA (the Front for National Salvation) comprising Ugandan exile groups that, together with the Tanzanian People’s Defence Forces, ousted Idi Amin in 1979.
