Museveni’s Son Backs His Mother for President

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has expressed support for his mother, Janet Kataha Museveni, the First Lady of Uganda, to become the country’s first female president.

In a statement on Thursday, December 19, Muhoozi said she is fit to occupy the top seat after his father, President Yoweri Museveni.

Muhoozi boasted of his mother’s beauty, stating that only his wife, Charlotte Nankunda Kutesa, surpasses her.

“Apart from Charlotte, I don’t know a woman on this planet who is more beautiful than my mother! Personally, I support her to become Uganda’s first female President,” he said.

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba Endorsing Museveni

This comes after he announced that he has no plans to run against his father in the next general elections.

In September, Muhoozi said he is focused on his role at the army and endorsed Museveni in the next polls.

“I would like to announce that I will not be on the ballot paper in 2026. Almighty God told me to focus on His Army first. So, I fully endorse President Yoweri Museveni in the next elections,” Muhoozi said.

However, he stated that the country will not be ruled by a civilian leader after his father.

Muhoozi emphasized that the forces will not allow a civilian to take over after Museveni, adding that the next president must come from Uganda’s security agencies.

“No civilian will lead Uganda after President Museveni. The security forces will not allow it. The next leader will be a soldier or policeman,” he said.

Punishing Critics

Earlier in August, Muhoozi sparked a debate on social media after threatening to punish those who oppose him if he succeeds his father as President of Uganda.

ADVERT

“When I become President of this beautiful country, anyone who doubts it will be in trouble!” Muhoozi wrote on X.

His statement was criticized by Uganda’s opposition leader, Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine.

He stated that Gen. Muhoozi has already confirmed he is more brutal than President Museveni.

Bobi Wine explained that it is up to the people of Uganda to rise against the humiliation and oppression inflicted by President Museveni and his entire family.

“He has already proven that he is many times more brutal than his brutal father. He has already proven what he can do to those who disagree with him,” Bobi Wine said.

“It is entirely up to we the people, to put an end to this humiliation, and oppression against the people of Uganda by Gen. Museveni and his family rule.”
