The Nation Media Group (NMG) has made an Executive Management Appointment, with the Group’s interim Chief Executive Officer Richard Tobiko announcing the appointment of a new Head of Broadcast.
In a notice on August 2, 2024, the NMG Group interim CEO announced the appointment of former Royal Media Services (RMS) manager Simaloi Dajom, as the new Head of Broadcasting, effective August 12, 2024.
“We are also excited to have Simaloi Dajom joining NMG as Head of Broadcast. Simaloi is a highly skilled media professional with experience in recruitment, retention and growing audiences across all media platforms. She will be in charge of the Nation Broadcasting Division (Kenya),” read part of the notice.
According to NMG, the Head of Broadcasting will be responsible for the overall business performance of Nation Broadcasting Division (Kenya).
She will also lead the development and execution of the broadcast strategy to drive growth of the Group’s television and radio stations ratings and market share in Kenya.
Simaloi is an established media professional with extensive experience in recruitment, retention and growing audiences across all media platforms.
Further, she has a track record in media production, programming, developing content strategies, business development, growing impactful media brands and developing talent.
NMG Names Simaloi Dajom New Head of Broadcast
Dajom previously held senior management positions in the media, notably at Royal Media Services as Group Head of Production, Programs Manager, and Deputy Director Radio.

The new NMG Head of Broadcast has also worked at Mediamax Network as Chief Content & Strategy Officer and as Head of Media Strategy & Content at Switch TV.
Dajom holds a Diploma in Radio and Television Content Production from Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC), is an alumnus of Business Daily Top-40-under-40, and a board member of Films Without Borders (United Kingdom).
New Chief Information Officer
At the same time, NMG announced the appointment of Russel Akuom as Chief Information Officer (CIO) effective August 1, 2024.
The Group’s interim CEO Richard Tobiko said that the CIO will provide digital transformation leadership to accelerate the pace of execution of the company’s digital initiatives aimed at attainment of the Group’s Digital North Star.
He will also be tasked with transitioning the company into a digital-first media house, championing enhancement of user experience on its digital platforms, driving innovation and institutionalizing a culture of digital excellence across the organization.
“In addition, the CIO will be responsible for alignment of technology and data strategies with the Group’s long-term goals to make data and technology key enablers of our success,” said Tobiko.
Russel’s previous roles include Head of Group Payments at Letshego, Head of Digital Banking Experience at Co-operative Bank of Kenya and Principal Innovation Officer at Safaricom.
He holds a Master of Science Degree in Entrepreneurship and Innovations Management, and a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Degree, both from the University of Nairobi (UoN).
Nation Media Group Announces Changes of Role of COO
Further, the Kimathi Street-headquartered company announced a change of scope for its Chief Operating Officer (COO), Monicah Waceke Ndung’u, effective August 1, 2024.
COO Waceke Ndung’u will now take up an expanded role of offering executive leadership to the Group’s External Affairs function.

She will also be tasked with the responsibility of growing strategic partnerships as well providing oversight to the Nation Media Foundation (NMF).
“In addition to her current responsibility for monitoring and tracking NMG strategy execution to ensure the delivery of the next phase of our transformation journey, as we seek to transform into Africa’s most trusted and innovative content platform, the COO’s role will be expanded effective August 1, 2024,” read part of the notice.
In the responsibility of providing executive leadership for the Group’s External Affairs function, Waceke is expected to proactively foster relations with stakeholders, in both public and private sectors, to enhance NMG’s relationships and engage in policy development for impact and sustainability.
Other roles
Also, the COO will be tasked with seeking, developing, and growing Strategic Partnerships with corporate and other institutions to support shared visions and development objectives, leveraging on the NMG Brand.
“Providing oversight to the Nation Media Foundation (NMF) to ensure effective resource mobilization and implementation of the foundation’s programs and operations and serve as the liaison between NMF and the Board,” added Tobiko.
Monicah Waceke is a Chevening Scholar and holds a Master of Arts degree in Communication from The University of Westminster (UK).
She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication (Electronic Media) from Daystar University and other media related professional certifications.
These appointments and changes come following the exit of former CEO Stephen Gitagama who retired after holding the position for six years.
A notice by NMG Board Chairman Wilfred Kiboro announced his retirement saying it would take effect from August 1, 2024.
