A viral letter making the rounds, claiming that five people have been nominated for the position of Cabinet Secretaries, including former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, has been flagged by the National Assembly.
The viral letter dated December 10, was stamped with a FAKE stamp to inform Kenyans that the information in there is false.
Additionally, the letter, allegedly from the Clerk of the National Assembly Samuel Njoroge was addressed to Ethic and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) CEO Twalib Mbarak.
“Pursuant to the constitutional mandate of ensuring integrity, transparency, and accountability in public service appointments, the Office of the Clerk of the National Assembly formally submits the following list of nominees for Cabinet positions for your review and vetting,” read part of the flagged letter.
The EACC was required to review the backgrounds of the eight listed persons “in accordance with the legal standards of high-ranking office”.
“In accordance with the provisions of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, your Commission is requested to conduct a thorough background check on the nominees to assess their compliance with the ethical and legal requirements for holding public office,” the letter read.

National Assembly Denies Vetting Matiang’i as Education CS
The five listed nominees for the Vetting Ministry were Fred Matiang’i, nominated for the position of Education; former Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, nominated for Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Irrigation; and former Agriculture CS Peter Munya, nominated for Water and Sanitation.
Other nominees include Lee Maiyani Kinyanjui, nominated for Roads and Transport, and Anthony Mwaura, also nominated for the Ministry of Roads and Transport.
“We kindly request that the findings of your vetting process be submitted to this office no later than Monday, 16th December 2024 to facilitate further action and ensure adherence to the stipulated timelines,” the flagged letter read further.
“Your cooperation in upholding the principles of ethical governance is greatly appreciated. We remain confident in the Commission’s commitment to transparency and accountability in safeguarding the public interest.”

Ruto Meets Uhuru
The letter follows a meeting between President William Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday, December 9, at Kenyatta’s Gatundu home.
According to former President Kenyatta, the two leaders discussed matters of national interest during their conversation. This marked their first private meeting since William Ruto assumed office as Kenya’s fifth president in 2022.
“President William Ruto paid a courtesy call to former President Uhuru Kenyatta at his Gatundu home. The two leaders discussed issues of national interest,” read a statement from Kenyatta.
