The National Police Service has issued a traffic advisory for Nairobi ahead of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) final between Madagascar and Morocco on 30th August 2025.
In an update issued on Friday, August 29, NPS warned motorists of temporary road closures and traffic diversions from 6:00 a.m.
This is due to the high influx of fans attending the match at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani Stadium.
“Due to the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024), the National Police Service wishes to inform the public of temporary road closures and traffic diversions in Nairobi,” read the statement in part.
Key diversion routes have been announced to ease congestion along major roads:
Thika Superhighway to Close from 6:00 AM Ahead of Morocco vs Madagascar Final
According to the advisory, motorists from Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) heading to Thika Road (Ruiru/Juja/Thika) should use Kiambu Road at Exit 4.
Authorities have set up a roadblock at Muthaiga to control traffic movement.

On the other hand, vehicles traveling along the Thika Superhighway and heading towards Mwiki are directed to use the alternative route through Ruaka, Baba Ndogo, Lucky Summer, Nairobi River, and then into Mwiki.
Motorists coming from Thika, Juja, and Ruiru heading to Nairobi CBD will be rerouted to the Northern Bypass or Kiambu Road.
Police notified motorists that a roadblock would be set up at the Ruiru Interchange, requiring drivers to adjust their routes early to avoid potential long delays.
NPS Issues Diversion Routes
Those traveling from Githurai to Nairobi CBD are advised to take Githurai 44, which connects to Kiambu Road, bypassing the usual congested arteries.
For fans and visitors heading to the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani Stadium, those without vehicle access passes should use the Service Lane at both Exit 7 and Exit 8.

The National Police Service has deployed additional officers and is working closely with relevant agencies to ensure smooth traffic flow.
Drivers are urged to cooperate with on-site officers and adhere to traffic regulations, as any violations will attract stern action.
“The National Police Service continues to work collaboratively with relevant agencies and urges all motorists to cooperate with officers on-site to ensure smooth traffic flow. Additional police officers have been deployed and will take stern action against anyone violating traffic rules,” reads part of the statement.
The police asked the public to plan their journeys accordingly and expect potential delays near match venues on Saturdays.
Morocco and Madagascar will face off in the grand finale of CHAN 2024 at the Moi International Sports Centre in Nairobi on Saturday, August 30, in a contest that promises history on either side.
Morocco, also known as the Atlas Lions, is chasing its third CHAN title in six years, while Madagascar (the Barea) is seeking a fairytale finish in its first-ever final—and the first for an island nation in the competition’s history.
