The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced that all Smart Driving Licenses are ready for collection.
In a statement on Thursday, November 9, the transport authority asked all motorists who applied for a smart driving license to collect the document at different centers.
Further, NTSA explained that the collection will take place at the center where the applicants are specified during the application process.
“We urge our esteemed clients to collect their smart DLs from the center identified during the application process,” the statement read in part.
NTSA on Conditions for Collection of DL
The authority also asked the motorists to carry copies of their original identity cards for verification during collection.
At the same time, motorists can check their license status by sending their contact details to 22846.
“Carry your original ID for verification. For more information on the DLs, visit the nearest NTSA office or send an email to diqueries@ntsa.go.ke,” added the authority.

Application of Smart Driving License
Application of Smart DLs are done are done through the e-Citizen portal and processing takes up to four weeks.
Furthermore, it costs Ksh3,050 to apply for a smart DL.
Also, motorists are required to submit their photo and biometrics during the application process.
Meanwhile, the authority earlier indicated that they had changed their operation hours to 11 hours from Monday to Friday, from 7.30 am to 6.00 pm.
In addition, NTSA called on Kenyans to take advantage of the extended working hours to collect their number plates and driving licenses.

Can the Old License be Used?
NTSA indicated earlier that although the transition from the old license to the smart license is ongoing since 2017, the old driving license will still be in use.
Full transition is expected to happen when 80 percent of the drivers have acquired the Smart Driving License.
Notably, the authority explained that the smart licenses will ensure compliance with the international standards of licensing and identification.
It also aids in the ease of paying fines and identification and penalization of reckless drivers on the roads.
