The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced a scheduled system maintenance that will temporarily disrupt access to its online services.
In a public notice dated June 20, 2025, NTSA stated that all its services will be intermittently unavailable during the scheduled maintenance period.
“The Authority plans to conduct a scheduled system maintenance from 10.00 am, Friday 20th June 2025 to Saturday 21st June 2025, 2.00 pm,” read the notice.
Additionally, the Authority has issued an apology for any inconvenience the scheduled maintenance may cause
NTSA Begins Crackdown on Matatus
NTSA now wants all PSV operators to immediately check their vehicles and fix any issues to meet the rules set in the 2014 PSV regulations.
In a public notice dated Tuesday, May 27, NTSA stated that many vehicles in the country have been painted with graffiti and other unauthorised artwork.
Further, the authority warned that those who fail to comply risk having their vehicles impounded or their licenses suspended or cancelled.
“Considering the foregoing, all licensed Public Transport Operators are hereby directed to conduct an immediate and comprehensive audit of their fleets to ensure full compliance with the requirements of the Regulations,” NTSA directed.
The Authority has also given notice to all Public Service Vehicle operators, noting that they must take immediate action, failure to which regulatory measures will be instituted.
Action taken will include punishment to individual motor vehicle owners and operator level, including but not limited to vehicle impoundment, suspension and revocation of the license.

Number of Accidents
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has released new figures detailing the number of road accident fatalities recorded in the first three months of 2025.
According to the report, 5,856 people were involved in road crashes between January 1 and March 31, marking a decrease of 1,908 cases compared to the same period in 2024.
Of those involved, 1,139 people lost their lives, a slight drop from the 1,166 fatalities recorded during the same period last year.

Another 3,316 individuals sustained serious injuries, while 2,693 suffered minor injuries
Pedestrians remained the most vulnerable road users, with 420 fatalities reported, down from 434 in the first quarter of 2024.
189 passengers died in various crashes during the period, while 83 drivers lost their lives — both figures lower than the 243 passengers and 94 drivers killed in the same period last year.
On the other hand, motorcyclist fatalities rose to 301, up from 274 in 2024. Pillion passengers also saw an increase in deaths, with 130 fatalities reported, compared to 100 in the previous year.
Pedal cyclist deaths, however, dropped slightly from 21 in 2024 to 16 in 2025.
