NTV Unveils New Show After Poaching Eric Latiff & Janet Mbugua

Latiff and Mbugua will be joined by Mariam Bishar in the new show. 

Following the exit of seasoned journalist Eric Latiff from the Standard Media Group and his subsequent unveiling at the Nation Media Group (NMG), the former Spice FM presenter is set to co-host a show with renowned journalist Janet Mbugua.

This comes days after Janet Mbugua made her media comeback by joining NMG following a seven-year break from the newsroom.

NTV in an update on January 31, 2025, revealed that Latiff and Mbugua will host a morning show dubbed FixingTheNation at alongside Nation FM‘s presenter Mariam Bishar.

According to the media house, the show will first air on Monday, February 3.

“#FixingTheNation with Eric Latiff, Janet Mbugua, and Mariam Bishar is coming to you this Monday, February 3 from 6 am-10 am. More details below. You don’t want to miss it!” announced NTV.

Brian Aseli who used to host the Morning Fix show alongside Bishar, said goodbye to the presenter while wishing her the best in her new role.

“This is the last show for the Morning Fix. Morning Fix as you know it has been the duo that is Mariam Bishar and Brian Aseli and of course DJ E every Friday and right now we have to say our goodbyes. But of course, it is also our hello for another amazing show. Mariam is now stepping into a bigger stage, one that is not just about conversations but also about accountability, impact and of course real change,” he said.

Janet Mbugua, Eric Latiff and Mariam Bishar to host new show

Aseli revealed that FixingTheNation will be a four-hour morning show running every Monday to Friday from 6am-10am which will be aired on TV, radio and social media platforms simultaneously.

Janet Mbugua made her media comeback earlier this month after taking a 7-year break from the newsroom.

NMG Head of Broadcasting Simaloi Dajom on Friday January 24 announced that the journalist had joined NMG.

“I am excited to inform you that renowned media personality, Janet Mbugua has joined Nation Media Group.

Janet is highly skilled in engaging audiences on TV, Radio & Digital media. She has previously worked as a prime-time News Anchor, show host & content producer for major outlets in Kenya & South Africa. Janet is an advocate of inclusivity for women and girls and is also passionate in amplifying voices for social change,” read the statement in part.

Before taking a break, Janet was working at Royal Media Services’ Citizen TV as a news anchor.

Mbugua left Citizen TV in April 2017 after working at the station for six years. She decided to step down from her role to spend more time with her family, particularly her young son.

The unveiling of Mbugua as a new NMG journalist also came just days after the unveiling of Eric Latiff at the same media group earlier in January.

Latiff gained popularity through The Situation Room show, which airs every weekday morning on Spice FM.

While bidding farewell to his former colleagues at Standard Group in a statement on January 6, the journalist thanked the group for allowing him to be part of their team.

“On this 6th day of January 2025, my heart is heavy as I bid kwaheri to the brilliant team of colleagues at Spice FM and the Standard Group,” he said.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to once again be a part of Kenya’s oldest private media house, and I am proud of the teams that I leave behind in radio, TV and print.”

Latiff and Mbugua will be joined by Mariam Bishar in the new FixingTheNation show. 

Prior to her new role, Bishar hosted the MorningFix show at Nation FM alongside Brian Asheli.

The versatile media personality’s TV career began at the age of 19 hosting the Great Debaters Contest on the Kenya Broadcating Corporation (KBC) Channel One.

Bishar has also previously worked at Homeboyz Radio and doubles up as a podcaster for her Hadithi Hadithi podcast.
