The Governors of Nyanza Region have issued a statement to clarify their position on the upcoming Nyanza International Investment Conference (NIC).
This declarative stance comes in response to comments made by the Nyanza Professional Forum.

“In response to the statement issued by the Nyanza Professional Forum regarding our stance on the upcoming Investment Conference, we, the Governors of Nyanza Region, wish to clarify our position,” reads part of a statement by the Governors.
In a May 19, 2024, statement seen by The Kenya Times, the governors expressed their dissatisfaction with the organization of the NIC, specifically criticizing the Nyanza Professional Forum for associating their names with the conference without prior consent or official communication.

The governors noted that they were surprised to see their involvement publicized through media featuring their images, a move they found disconcerting and unapproved.
“We adamantly rejected the forum’s unilateral decision to associate our names with the conference without prior official communication,” read the statement in part.

“Discovering our supposed involvement through media publications featuring our images, without our consent, was highly disconcerting.”
Governors Denies Receiving Official Invitation
Despite claims from the Nyanza Professional Forum that they had informed the governors about the conference, the governors firmly denied receiving any official invitation or information regarding the event, which is scheduled for June 28 and 29.
“Despite the forum’s hasty attempt to downplay our objections by claiming they had informed us about the conference, this assertion is false.”
“We maintain that, as Governors representing Nyanza within the Lake Region Economic Bloc, we never received any official invitation or information regarding the investment conference scheduled for June 28 and 29 at the time of our initial statement on May 17,” noted the statement.

Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, the Governor of Kisumu County and Chairman of the Lake Region Economic Bloc, voiced the collective sentiment of the Nyanza Governors, stating that the forum’s attempt to downplay their objections was unfounded.
Demand to the Nyanza Professional Forum
The governors criticized the forum’s response as a belated effort to justify their missteps and called for the forum to take responsibility and issue an apology.
“Consequently, we dismiss the forum’s claims with the disdain they deserve,”
“Their response appears to be a belated effort to justify their oversights and assumptions in organizing the event,” said Nyanza Governors.
They further emphasized that rather than attempting to rationalize their actions, the Nyanza Professional Forum should take responsibility for their oversights and assumptions in organizing the event.
