Police have made a breakthrough in the investigation into the murder of Kaspul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were. Detectives have arrested Isaac Kuria, also known as Kush, who is believed to be the individual that shot the MP.
Kuria was apprehended in Isebania while planning to flee to Tanzania, where a relative resides. According to police reports, on the day of the shooting, Kuria monitored the MP’s movements in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).
After shooting the MP, Kuria quickly rushed to Mihano, where he disposed of the firearm used in killing the Member of Parliament, which the police have since recovered. He then took a motorbike from Mihang’o to Narok.
Police Arrest Hitman Behind Kaspul MP Murder
In Narok, the suspect boarded a public service vehicle heading to Isebania in an attempt to evade police detection. Upon arriving in Isebania, it is reported that Kuria checked into a lodging and maintained constant communication with a relative in Tanzania, planning his escape from the country.

The police managed to arrest the assailant after they used a tracking communication device to monitor Kuria’s communications and those of other suspects in custody.
Kuria was arrested alongside another suspect in his hideout, who are expected to be arraigned in court on Monday, May 12, 2025.
Firearm Used to Shoot the Late MP Recovered
The arrest of the alleged hitman came days after Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja issued a statement on Thursday, May 5, 2025, saying that the police had recovered the firearm used in the murder of the Kaspul MP.

According to Kanja, the critical piece of evidence not only identified the weapon used in the heinous act but also revealed its involvement in a series of other criminal activities.
“Specifically, the same firearm has been implicated in three separate robbery incidents across Nairobi and Kiambu Counties, with the most recent crime occurring on April 26, 2025,” added the IG. Kuria’s arrest raises the total number of suspects apprehended over the past two weeks to 11.
Among those already in custody are businessman and politician Philip Aroko, bodyguard attached to the late MP, Alan Omondi; his driver, Walter Owino; William Imoli; and Lake Basin Development Authority director Ebel Ochieng.
