Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai sought answers from the National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi on the involvement of Azimio leaders in President William Ruto’s trip to the US.
In a strongly worded letter posted on his X account, Alai expressed concerns about ODM’s apparent endorsement of such international travels alongside UDA leadership.

“We hope your globe-trotting adventures with President William Ruto are treating you well. We hear the in-flight meals in first class are quite the experience!”
However, the MCA quickly shifted gears, seeking clarification on the strategic benefits ODM expects to gain from these diplomatic engagements.

Robert Alai Questions Wandayi
The MCA questioned whether Wandayi was negotiating a way out of the Finance Bill 2024, or learning skills in economic mismanagement, or taking notes on how to further indebt the Kenyan economy.
He then MCA then turned his attention to the authorization Wandayi received to travel with UDA and its supporters.

Alai pushed Wandayi to provide the letter of permission from the ODM party, hinting at the possibility of forgeries.
“Could you please share the specific letter of permission? We are particularly interested in the signatures – we suspect there might be some masterful forgeries at play here.”
Opiyo Wandayi on a Spy mission
He also questioned whether Kimani Ichung’wah, the UDA Majority Leader, might be using Wandayi to spy on President Ruto as UDA faces potential internal conflicts.
“Or is Hon Kimani Ichungwah using you to spy on William Ruto as UDA implosion looms?’
Furthermore, the vocal lawmaker demanded a detailed itinerary of Wandayi’s travels, wondering if there were any confidential meetings to discuss ODM’s future as the “loyal “opposition or if the Minority Leader was simply enjoying the perks of the trip.
Furthermore, Alai addressed the perceived elephant in the room noting that while UDA is being blamed for mismanaging the economy and overtaxing Kenyans, Wandayi seems comfortable associating with the current regime.
The MCA questioned if this was part of a new ODM strategy to better critique UDA’s policies or if Wandayi is taking notes on how to further indebt the Kenyan economy.
Lastly, Alai also inquired about the personal benefits Wandayi might be accruing from these ventures.
“Are the lessons on political gymnastics from UDA members as enlightening as they say? Or are you working on a tell-all memoir, “Inside the UDA: An ODM Leader’s Tale?”
