Parliament is mourning the death of a respected human resource professional whose career in public service spanned nearly three decades. The leadership of the House on June 11 eulogized the late Maasai Lekipaika in a glowing tribute.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula said Maasai had been a pillar within Parliament’s administrative leadership and praised his longstanding commitment to professionalism and staff development.
“He mentored colleagues, fostered a culture of professionalism and service excellence, and significantly strengthened the Commission’s human resource structures during his tenure,” Wetang’ula said.
Maasai Lekipaia began his public service journey in education, working as a high school teacher and principal before transitioning to the Teachers Service Commission Secretariat in 1994.

Profile of Maasai Lekipaika
He served there as Senior Principal Administrative Officer until 2007, when he joined the Parliamentary Service Commission.
At the PSC, he steadily rose through the ranks from Principal Human Resource Development Officer to Chief Human Resource Development Officer before assuming his final role as Deputy Director of Human Resource.
Known for his composed demeanor, institutional knowledge, and deep commitment to staff welfare, he was widely regarded as both a mentor and advisor in the parliamentary community.
Wetang’ula expressed his condolences to the family, friends, and all those impacted by the official’s service and leadership.
“May the Almighty grant his soul eternal rest, and may his family find peace and strength during this difficult time,” he said.

In a statement on June 12, Senate Amason Jeffah Kingi described Lekipaika as a dedicated public servant known for his commitment to the welfare of Parliament members and staff, as well as to institutional development and efficiency.
“Mr. Lekipaika’s work ethic exemplified the dedication, professionalism and commitment for which the HR personnel at Parliament are known,” Kingi said. “We pray for God’s grace and strength upon his family and friends during this difficult period. May his soul rest in peace.”
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming day.
Parliament Recent Deaths
This comes barely two months after parliament lost Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were tragically passed away on Wednesday, April 30.
The lawmaker, who was affiliated with the Raila Odinga-led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), was reportedly shot by unknown gunmen who were riding on a motorcycle.
According to investigations, attackers appeared to have targeted the lawmaker specifically, as his driver escaped unharmed.
The legislator was rushed to Nairobi Hospital to save his life but was pronounced dead on arrival at the medical facility.
