Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris  has found herself embroiled in a heated dispute with Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly Robert Alai over governance and political allegiances.

The dispute was sparked by a video Passaris posted on social media, in which she openly expressed her admiration for President William Ruto.

In the video, Passaris defended her right to appreciate the president despite being a member of the opposition party led by Raila Odinga.

“I also admire Ruto, I admire the president so Get with it. I don’t care what you think. Just because I’m in Baba’s party that doesn’t mean I have to hate Ruto I can’t,” Passaris stated boldly.

She defended her stance against critics, adding that being in one political party does not necessitate animosity towards others.

“I don’t hate anyone. It’s not in my psyche it’s not in my being. I love the president, I love the way he does things,” she added.

Alai Criticizes Passaris

Robert Alai, however, took issue with Passaris’ stance and criticized her remarks.

He suggested that political leadership should prioritize serving the citizens over personal relationships, implying that Passaris’ approach could compromise the integrity of governance.

“With all due respect to my Woman Rep. When you elect leaders to make love to those with greater powers, you know you really messed big time,” noted Alai.

Furthermore, the Kileleshwa MCA emphasized the importance of citizen focused leadership, stating, “Political leadership is not a PIMP empire or brothel when you have to make love to each other. It’s about citizens and service notlove.”

Passaris Addresses Critics Threatening her Political Career

Additionally, in the 9-minute-long video, Passaris addressed those threatening her political future in the 2027 elections, dismissing their warnings with a reminder of the uncertainties of the future.

“Don’t threaten me with 2027, first of all, you don’t even know if you’re going to be alive to vote, so just pray that you vote because if the only agenda you have for 2027 is to vote me out, just remember there’s going to be many people who want to vote me in, that’s if I’m alive and if that’s God’s plan for me. So quit with the threats all the time.”

Passaris further addressed those labeling her as a “betrayer” (Msaliti) for voting in favor of the finance bill, stating that she will continue to support the bill despite its shortcomings.

“Those of you who keep calling me Msaliti (Betrayer), because I voted for the finance bill, we have another finance bill coming up and I’m sure there’s going to be things that I don’t like in the, but you know what I’m going to vote for it, because a government requires money to run its operations and I get that,” she explained.

Passaris Urges Kenyans to Pay Taxes

The Nairobi Women Representative emphasized the vital role of taxes in funding essential services like healthcare, education, security, and infrastructure, and urged citizens to recognize their responsibility in contributing to the country’s growth.

“We’re a country that’s in a challenging position, and my real prayer is that we get the formula right without further burdening the people. We all need to take responsibility as citizens for taxes, for our country to grow and become self-reliant.”

“What do we expect, the Europeans and Americans to pay taxes and us to grow our country? Come on, let’s be real, we’ve got to pay taxes.”
