The family of former Governor Paul Chepkwony has appealed for support to raise over Ksh 6 million to cover the cost of his specialized medical treatment abroad following a prolonged health battle.
In a statement on May 5, the family of former Kericho Governor Prof. Paul Chepkwony Kiprono has confirmed that he has been unwell for the past three years and has been receiving treatment at a medical facility in Eldoret.
“It is in the public domain that former Kericho Governor, Prof. Paul Kiprono Chepkwony, has been unwell for the past three years and has been receiving treatment at a medical facility in Eldoret. We sincerely thank all the leaders and wananchi who have visited him, offered financial support, and continued to pray for him,” the family stated.
Former Governor Paul Chepkwony Seeks Ksh 6M Medical Support
According to the family, following multiple visits and consultations, the leaders agreed that the former Governor requires further specialized treatment abroad. The decision also informed a call for the mobilization of resources from leaders and members of the public.
The appeal targets over Ksh 6 million to cover medical expenses for his ongoing care.
Further, the family confirmed that a fundraising event has been scheduled for Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Weston Hotel to support the treatment plan and raise funds from well-wishers to facilitate medical care.
“It was further agreed that we reach out to leaders and wananchi to help raise resources towards his treatment. This forms the basis of the fundraiser slated for Friday, 8th May 2026, at Weston Hotel,” the family confirmed.

The Fundraising Event and Details
According to the organizers, contributions are being received through Paybill number 222111, Account Number 035222, under the account name PAUL CHEPKWONY MEDICAL FUND.
A fundraising event has been scheduled for May 8, 2026, at 6.00 pm at Weston Hotel in Nairobi, located next to Wilson Airport.
Profile of Former Governor Paul Chepkwony
Paul Kiprono Chepkwony served as the first Governor of Kericho County during the 2013–2022 devolution period, holding two consecutive terms under Kenya’s devolved government system.

He hails from Ainamoi in Kericho County and is widely known locally by the nickname “Timbilwet,” with strong political and social ties to the Kericho tea-growing belt and the broader Rift Valley region.
In his political career, he was first elected in 2013 on the United Republican Party (URP) ticket and later served his second term under the Jubilee Party.
Before entering politics, Paul Chepkwony built an academic career as an Associate Professor at Moi University, where he specialized in Pharmaceutical Chemistry.
He holds a PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and has been credited with more than 10 patented innovations in science and technology.
Paul Chepkwony was elected as Kericho’s inaugural governor in 2013 and retained the seat in 2017, serving two consecutive terms.
