Police in Nairobi have allowed the Azimio coalition to proceed with their planned consultative at the Kamukunji grounds.
Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei says the coalition had filed a notification about the planned meeting.
Bungei said plans are in place to ensure the meeting is peaceful and successful.
“We are on the ground to ensure the rally is peaceful. We will provide the needed security,” said Bungei.
Azimio leader Raila Odinga is expected to lead the meeting which is described as part of the continued opposition over the Finance Act, 2023.
Previously, police have used excessive force to disperse Azimio leaders and supporters during demonstrations and anti-government meetings.
Raila who has been in Poland is expected to return to the country today.
