A police officer who was among the cops that arrested Ian Njoroge, a university student captured assaulting a traffic police officer, is among several law enforcement officers in custody.
The officer attached to Kayole Police Station is among eight police officers arrested in the past 2 days for engaging in various crimes within Nairobi, which include robbery with violence.
According to police records, some of the officers who were arrested on Thursday, June 6, 2024, are also accused of extortion and obtaining bribes.
Preliminary reports indicated one of the arrested cops was among the four police officers who arrested 19-year-old Ian Njoroge in dramatic fashion earlier in the week.
The University student was arrested by the officers after a manhunt was launched for him following a viral video that caused widespread uproar.
The 19-year-old was smoked out of his hideout on Sunday, June 2, 2024, by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Police Arrest Ian Njoroge
Authorities in Kasarani reported that Njoroge was arrested in the evening, hours after the video went viral on social media.

Njoroge, who assaulted and injured the officer during a traffic stop in Mirema along Kamiti Road, was apprehended at his home in the Jacaranda area of Kayole, Nairobi.
The case had been reported at Kasarani police station where the detectives launched a probe as the assaulted traffic officer sought treatment for the injuries sustained during the attack at a hospital in Nairobi.
Following the arrest, the teenager was processed and arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on June 5 where he was charged with three counts of resisting arrest, assault, and robbery with violence.
While appearing before magistrate Ben Mark, Njoroge’s lawyers held that the officers who arrested their client molested him.

The defense team representing the varsity student made up of lawyers Duncan Okatch and Vincent Lempaa told the court that officers who arrested him handled him in an inhumane manner during the time of arrest.
Officers Caught in Different offences
Cases of men in uniform being caught in criminal acts have been on the rise with a record number of eight officers put in custody in the last two days in Nairobi alone.
Another incident that has been linked to rogue officers involves a case where over Ksh2 million was stolen from a locked motor vehicle on Monday.
The matter was reported to Mihang’o police station by a school accountant, with preliminary investigations by police finding that two suspects had already been arrested by unknown individuals in a Subaru make vehicle.
Further intelligence by the police officers led them to Kasarani police station on Wednesday where the Subaru vehicle was parked.
In it, the detectives found two civilians who are believed to be the suspects alongside four police officers who investigations indicate that they had arrested the civilians.
Three of the cops are DCI officers attached to Kasarani Police Station while one is based at Ruai Police Station.
The officers who were not on official duty were found to be in possession of Ksh350,000 inside the car with a further Ksh123,000 being recovered from the pockets of one of the officers.
