The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) is set to kick off the long-awaited nationwide recruitment of 10,000 police constables, as part of efforts to strengthen Kenya’s security forces under the 2025/2026 Financial Year.

According to a public notice issued on Friday, September 19, the recruitment exercise will take place from Friday, October 3, to Thursday, October 9, 2025, at designated centers across all 47 counties

NPSC emphasized that the entire process is free of charge and open to all eligible and qualified Kenyans. Applicants are warned against paying any money or engaging third parties during the application or recruitment process.

In line with this, interested candidates must download and complete a mandatory application form before appearing at their selected recruitment centers.

Below is a full breakdown of how to fill out the form, what information is required, and what documents must be attached.

NPS October 2025 recruitment application instructions and requirements

The application form must be filled in duplicate (two copies) and completed using block letters. All sections of the form must be filled; if a section is not applicable, it must be clearly marked “N/A”.

Applicants must also present the original and attach photocopies of key supporting documents during the recruitment, including:

  • National ID
  • Birth certificate
  • KCSE certificate and any other academic documents
  • Secondary school leaving certificate
  • NYS Discharge Certificate (if applicable)

Personal and residential details

In the first section, applicants are expected to provide detailed personal and contact information. This includes full names (surname, first, and other names), date of birth, age, gender, nationality, and ID number. Candidates must also indicate their tribe and other demographic identifiers.

Applicants should ensure that residential information matches the records on their National ID, including home county, sub-county, division, location, sub-location, constituency, and ward. They must also indicate their current physical address, two mobile phone numbers (primary and alternative), and a working email address.

The form also requires candidates to specify their recruitment center preference — that is, the county, constituency, sub-county, and specific recruitment location where they intend to present themselves for assessment.

Applicants must also provide physical attributes, including height (in feet) and weight (in kilograms).

In case of emergencies, each applicant must name an alternative contact person and provide that person’s relationship to the applicant, address, phone number, and email.

Education and employment history

The second section covers the applicant’s educational background, beginning with the most recent level of education completed.

Each entry should include the institution attended, the start and end dates, the qualification or award received, the course studied, and the final grade attained. For those who have previously been employed, section three allows applicants to detail their employment history.

Here, they must state the name of their employer, their position, and the duration of employment. This section is optional and should be marked “N/A” if not applicable.

Background checks and medical history

Applicants must answer yes or no to questions about their criminal and disciplinary history. Specifically, they must disclose whether they have ever been convicted of a criminal offence, or whether they have ever been dismissed or removed from a position of employment.

Medical declarations are also required. Applicants must indicate whether they suffer from any medical conditions or disabilities, such as psychological issues, injuries, hearing loss, infectious diseases, or any other condition that may affect their ability to serve in the police service. Where the answer is “Yes”, the applicant must describe the condition in detail.

A separate section is also dedicated to general medical history, which must be completed truthfully.

Service preference and NYS experience

Applicants are asked to specify which arm of the National Police Service they wish to join by ticking only one of the following options:

  • Kenya Police Service (KPS)
  • Administration Police Service (APS)
  • General Service Unit (GSU)

Those who have undergone training in the National Youth Service (NYS) must provide their NYS Discharge Certificate Number.

Skills and competencies

Under Section 8, applicants are required to provide additional information that may be useful in evaluating their suitability.

This includes a list of spoken languages (and the level of proficiency), as well as other competencies such as driving, ICT skills, sports, mechanical aptitude, or any special talents that may benefit the service.

Referees and final declaration

Each applicant must list three referees, preferably persons of high standing such as a local chief, school principal, or a recognized professional. For each referee, the following must be provided: full name, occupation, phone number, email address, and town of residence.

The form concludes with a mandatory declaration section that must be signed and dated by the applicant. In this declaration, the applicant affirms that:

  1. The information provided is accurate and complete.
  2. The application will be used to assess their suitability for the police service.
  3. The Commission is authorized to contact the nominated referees.
  4. They understand that false or misleading information may lead to disqualification or dismissal from the service.

NPSC reiterates that the process is merit-based, transparent, and entirely free. Any attempt to bribe, falsify documents, or cheat the process will lead to legal consequences.

Under Section 25 of the NPSC Act, providing false or misleading information on the application form is a criminal offense. Conviction may result in a fine not exceeding Ksh200,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both.

The application must be completed with the applicant’s signature and the date. According to NPSC, the two filled forms must be presented physically during recruitment, and only those who follow the outlined procedures will be considered.

Interested and qualified applicants are required to download and fill out the prescribed application form available here: (POLICE CONSTABLE RECRUITMENT APPLICATION FORM_2025).
