Azimio Leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday, February 28 broke his silence on the upcoming Law Society of Kenya (LSK) elections set for Thursday, February 29.
Odinga pledged his support for the current LSK Vice President Faith Odhiambo, who is among the five candidates looking forward to succeeding outgoing President Eric Theuri.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader declared his support for Odhiambo in a statement after holding closed-door talks.
“An engaging conversation with LSK Vice President and aspiring LSK President.
Her commitment to upholding the rule of law and advocating for good governance principles is truly inspiring.
I wish her all the best and she has my full support,” said Odinga.
Lawyers will on Thursday elect new officials of the LSK and a representative to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
The post for the President of LSK was declared vacant following the lapse of outgoing President Eric Theuri and his council’s two-year term.
What’s more, five candidates declared their interest for the post which included the current LSK Vice President Faith Odhiambo.

Odhiambo will battle it out with former vice president Caroline Kamende, current council member Njoki Mboce, Peter Wanyama and former council member Bernhard Kipng’etich.
This year’s contest saw a remarkable record of three female lawyers throwing their hats into the ring to contest for the seat.
It signifies a significant shift in a traditionally male-dominated arena and reflects the growing influence of women in shaping the legal landscape.

Moreover, Odhiambo is a former Board Secretary of the Federation of Women Lawyers-Kenya and a lecturer at the University of Nairobi School of Law where she teaches Law of Business Associations, Banking Law, Competition Law and Consumer Protection Law.

She holds an LLB (Hons) from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, a post graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law and an LLM (Hons) in International Commercial Law with European Law from University of Kent (UK).
In addition, the LSK Presidential hopeful is a PhD student at the University of Nairobi.
The current LSK vice chair boasts an experience in litigation, corporate and commercial law, telecommunications law, and competition law.
Likewise, Faith Odhiambo previously worked with the Competition Authority of Kenya – CAK, where she was tasked with the role of advising on the interpretation of legal provisions regarding violations under restrictive trade practices, merger transactions and consumer protection complaints.
In 2017, she was involved in a Retail Market Study of Kenya, Advisory Projects for Competition in the Mobile financial services in Tanzania, as well as the Advisory projects on Spectrum Management in Kenya.
She is also a Certified Public Secretary, and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators-UK (MCIarb).
Former Defense Cabinet Secreytary Raychelle Omamo was the first woman chairperson of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK). She served as LSK President from 2001 to 2003.
