Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga expressed deep sorrow over the passing of his longtime personal aide and bodyguard, George Oduor.
In a statement, Raila said Oduor died after on the evening of Wednesday, April 2, in Nairobi.

He stated that Oduor has been serving the family of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga since the 1980s.
Raila mourned Oduor as a loyal aide who has been by his side, and that of the larger Oginga family, through both triumphs and challenges.

He described Oduor as a pillar of support, always present regardless of circumstances, and a dependable figure in his life.
He also mentioned Oduor’s unwavering professionalism, dedication, and calm demeanor.

“It is with profound shock and sadness that I announce the passing of my personal aide and bodyguard George Oduor this evening in Nairobi after a short illness. George has been a part of Jaramogi’s and my family since the late 80’s,” Raila said.
“We have stood, fallen, and risen together. He has been a vigilant, calm, confident, and extremely professional aide dedicated to duty and dependable rock on my side all these years through tumultuous periods.”
Raila added that he would miss Oduor and sent condolences to his wife Carol George and his family.

Additionally, Raila sent a condolence message to Ida Odinga and the entire Odinga family
“I will miss George, and I am sorry to the myriad friends who miss him already. To his wife, Carol George, entire family, colleagues, and friends, I offer Mama Ida’s and the entire Jaramogi family’s sincere condolences at this devastating loss. May the almighty rest his soul in eternal peace,” he said.
Oduor died while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital, where he had been admitted for over a week.
He has been Raila’s personal bodyguard for over 30 years dating as far back as 1994 when he was seen at the funeral of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga at Uhuru Park.

ODM Mourns George Oduor
ODM’s Director of Communications, Phillip Etale, mourned Oduor’s passing, remembering him as loyal friend who has supported him throughout the years.
“This is one man who stood by me at all costs. I have lost a friend. Big bro. Rest Easy, George,” Etale said.
Oduor has been the most visible of Raila’s security team although not much is known about his personal life.
