Azimio Coalition leader Raila Odinga has revealed that President William Ruto was behind the handshake between him and former president Uhuru Kenyatta.
The revelation was uttered during the coalition’s Umoja Parliamentary meeting held in Machakos, saying Uhuru was the one who looked for him and they had a lengthy discussion.
“The author of the handshake is non-other than President William Ruto, we did not lose any of the elections,” he said.
Raila insisted that he does not intend to have a ‘handshake’ with the President but rather have their demands met.
“We have formed our team that will have a dialogue with the Kenya Kwanza team, for reforms. We want our demands met.”
Raila further clarified that his members were not part of the handshake with Uhuru, and never participated in the Jubilee government regime.
“This idea that the handshake is what caused problems is hogwash. We did not participate in Uhuru’s government,” he stated.

The Opposition chief said the team wants a proper constitutional review to cure the governance defect in the 2010 Constitution.
“We want to remove the last vestiges of an imperial presidency,” Raila stated.
In other demands, Raila wants recommendations on measures on how the cost of unga, fuel, electricity and school fees will be lowered and for the government to consider restructuring IEBC by dissolving structures to the counties.
“We want a review and forensic audit of the servers used by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission before, during and after the 2022 general election,” he said.
