Ruto Announces Reappointments in State Corporations

President William Ruto has reappointed several non-executive chairpersons to key state corporations.

In a gazette issued on Friday, April 17, Ruto announced reappointments to the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC), the Ewaso Nyiro South River Basin Development Authority Act, the Kenya Leather Development Council Order, and the Export Processing Zones Act.

Under Kenyan law, non-executive chairpersons of state corporations are appointed by the President for fixed terms, which may be renewed based on policy direction and performance considerations.

Ruto Reappoints Board Chairs at REREC, EPZA and Other State Bodies

In separate Gazette Notices issued on April 17, 2026, Ruto reappointed Godfrey Lemiso as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC). The appointment takes effect from April 20, 2026.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 45(1)(a) of the Energy Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, re-appoint—Godfrey Lemiso as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation, with effect from 20th April, 2026,” read the notice in part.

At the same time, the Head of State re-appointed Samuel Sakita Kutata as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Ewaso Ng’iro South River Basin Development Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from 17th April, 2026.

Ruto also reappointed Ruchard Cheruiyot as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Export Processing Zones Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from 20th April, 2026.

The Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA) is a state corporation mandated to promote, regulate, and facilitate export-oriented investment in Kenya through designated export processing zones and special economic frameworks.

Meanwhile, the President reappointed Adan Mohammed as the Chairperson of the Kenya Leather Development Council for a period of three years.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by paragraph 4(1)(a) of the Kenya Leather Development Council Order, 2011, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, re-appoint Adn Mohammed as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of the Kenya Leather Development Council, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from 17th April, 2026, ” the notice read further.

On his part, Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua reappointed Isaac Kaberia and Dr. Milkah Kimonda as trustees of the National Social Security Fund for three years.

Cabinet Secretaries Appointments 

Several Cabinet Secretaries have also made reappointments across key state agencies

At the Ministry of East African Community, ASALs and Regional Development, Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul Moe reappointed Caroline Pulei, Eunice Singoei, Mathew Gathua, Elijah Kesei Metian, Veronica Silantoi Mwangi, William Kenteyia, and Silas Otieno Ojienda Victors to the Ewaso Ng’iro South River Basin Development Authority board for three-year terms.

National Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi also reappointed Dr. Edward N. Kobuthi, Irene Njeri Wanyoike, Celine Anyango Orata, David J. O. Nyakang’o, and Amb. Wellington Pakia Godo as members of the Privatization Commission for a two-year term.

On her part, Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome reappointed Dr Victor O. Olonde and appointed Rashid Haron Shake to the Valuers Registration Board for three-year terms.

Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba reappointed and appointed members to the councils of several national polytechnics for three-year terms.

At Kitale National Polytechnic, Dr. Bishop Paul K. Korir was reappointed as chairperson, along with four other members. Anthony Njagi Getambu was also reappointed as chairperson of Meru National Polytechnic, alongside two other members.

Dr. Patricia Mwaka Mbogoh was also reappointed chairperson of Kenya Coast National Polytechnic alongside five members, while David Kanyoi Gachuru will chair Nyeri National Polytechnic.

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku appointed Dr. Eldah Onsomu to the Kenya School of Government Council for a three-year term.
