President William Ruto has announced Kenya’s dedication to multilateralism as enshrined in the United Nations Charter, emphasizing the nation’s role in safeguarding global values of peace, security, and stability.
Highlighting this commitment, President Ruto engaged in pivotal talks with the Haiti Transitional Presidential Council, chaired by Engineer Edgard Leblanc Fils on June 19, 2024.
The discussions focused on establishing robust communication channels to aid Haiti in its ongoing quest for peace and stability.
“Kenya is a firm believer in the shared global values of multilateralism as enshrined in the United Nations Charter,” stated President Ruto.
“We will safeguard shared principles of humanity that enable us to advance peace, security, and stability,” he added.
Strategy to Restore Peace in Haiti
The talks with Haiti’s Transitional Presidential Council are part of a broader strategy to support nations grappling with conflict and instability.
President Ruto emphasized on the importance of these discussions in laying the groundwork for restoring peace in Haiti, a nation that has faced prolonged periods of political turmoil and insecurity.

“We shall establish communication channels as part of the ongoing engagement in restoring peace to Haiti,” Ruto confirmed, expressing Kenya’s readiness to contribute to international peacekeeping efforts.
The establishment of communication channels with Haiti is expected to facilitate better coordination and support for peace-building initiatives, signaling a new hope for the troubled nation.
Haiti Police Boss meeting IG Koome
President Ruto’s pivotal talks came a day after Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome on Tuesday, June 18 met with Haiti Police official Joachim Prohete at the National Police Service (NPS) headquarters in Nairobi.
In a statement, the National Police Service noted that the two police bosses alongside the Haitian delegation held discussions regarding the upcoming NPS-led Multilateral Security Support Mission to the troubled Caribbean country.
IG Koome assured the Haitian Police, that the Kenyan National Police Service remains committed to collaboration in the mission.

“NPS remains committed to collaboration in the mission, for the good of the people of Haiti especially women and children,” assured IG Koome.
Dates for Police Deployment
Speaking to BBC on 24th May 2024, President Ruto acknowledged that the first team had already landed in Haiti, adding that another team will arrive in Haiti in about three weeks.
However, the deployment of the second team will only happen after a ground assessment and assurance that everything is set.
“I have a team already in Haiti as I speak to you,” President Ruto told the BBC.
“Once we have that assessment that we agreed with the Haitian police and the Haitian leadership, we are looking at the horizon of between three weeks and there about for us to be ready to deploy, once everything on the ground is set,” Ruto added.
This implied that the latest they were to arrive in Haiti was June 15 2024. However, the government has not issued the exact date for the deployment.
