President William Ruto has awarded Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) Njuguna Ndung’u and Aisha Jumwa Katana the CS for Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage with the Elder of the Order of Golden Heart awards.
The president in exercise of the powers conferred to him in the constitution also recognized contributions by Labour CS Hon. Florence Chepngetich Bore and Hon. Alice Muthoni Wahome of the Ministry of Lands by awarding them the second class of the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (E.G.H.).
In gazette notice no. 3033, President William Ruto also awarded various individuals for their distinguished and outstanding services rendered to the nation in various capacities and responsibilities.
“I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces, confer Awards and Honors to the following persons,” the statement read in part.

In addition, Teresia Mabika Malokwe was awarded with the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (First Class) and Karani John Ndiwa Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (Third Class).
The president issues awards upon the advice of a National Honors and Awards Committee.
Kenya’s highest honor, the Order of the Golden Heart of the Republic of Kenya, is divided into three classes: Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart (C.G.H.), Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (E.G.H.), and Master of the Order of the Golden Heart (M.G.H.).
Chief of the Order is mostly given to the holders of the office of the President of Kenya.
National Honors and Awards Committee
The president receives guidance from the National Honors and Awards Committee regarding the recipients of the medals and decorations.
Government, non-governmental organizations, individuals, religious institutions, county commissioners, and other community-based groups recommend the honorees.
The committee comprises the Deputy President who is the chairperson and the Cabinet Secretary responsible for national heritage.
Others include the Cabinet Secretary responsible for public service and two Governors elected by the Council of County Governors.
In addition, the chairperson of the Public Service Commission is also part of the committee.
Other medals
In the Kenya Defense Forces, the Uhodari Medal is a highly esteemed honor. A soldier or individual who has demonstrated exceptional bravery and selflessness while serving in the armed forces in various capacities is given the Uhodari Medal.

Another award given to people in honor of exceptional service to their country in a variety of roles and abilities is the Order of the Grand Warrior (O.G.W.). It is an award given, more significantly, to individuals who risk their lives to save their fellow citizens.
