President William Ruto has made new appointments to government owned agencies and parastatals.
In a gazette notice dated Friday, December 8, President Ruto appointed Joseph Lagat as the new chairperson of the National Mining Corporation.
Besides, Lagat will replace Joe Owaka whose appointment was revoked in the same notice.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 7 (3) of the State Corporations Act. I William Ruto appoint Joseph Lagat to be the chairperson of the National Mining Corporation, with effect from the 8th of December 2023 up to the 5th of October 2024. The appointment of Joe Owaka Ager is revoked,” read the gazette notice in parts.
Further, the president named Dr. Jedidah Mwiti, Dr. Tom Kahigu, Amos Chetalam Kale, Timothy Tiampati and Kenneth Gatheru Gatihi as members of the Board of Directors (BoD) of Consolidated Bank Limited.
Mwiti will hold the position from December 8, 2023, to October 5, 2024, while Kale’s appointment took effect December 8 and will run up to October 27, 2024.
Additionally, Tiampati and Gatheru will be members of the BoD from December 8, 2023, to June 2, 2025.
On the other hand, Chetalam will serve from December 8 up to December 21, 2024.
The five will replace Isaac Mulatya Muoki, David Ogega Obure, Nabila K. Mazrui, Dr. George Mokua and MaryKaren Chesang Kigen-Sorobit whose appointments were revoked.
Judiciary Appointments & Announcements
Chief Justice (CJ) Martha Koome extended the appointment of Bernard Ochoi as the acting Chairperson of the Water Tribunal.
Notably, Koome said Ochoi will hold the position for another one year with effect from December 11, 2023.
“Take notice that the CJ has established Lodwar Environment and Land Court (ELC) Sub-Registry with effect from the 11th of December 2023,” said Koome.

Ruto CS Appointments
Also, Education CS Ezekiel Machogu appointed Susan Amlangop Aletia to be a member of the Council of Moi University, for three (3) years.
Her appointment takes effect from December 8, 2023.
Further, Machogu named Japhet Mvoyi Ria as a member of the Council of the Pwani University, for three (3) years, with effect from December 8, 2023.
Additionally, National Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung’u appointed Abubakar Ketemon Lewano to be a member of the Kenya Trade Network Agency Board.
He will serve for a period of three (3) years, with effect from December 8.

Furthermore, Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage CS Aisha Jumwa named Stephen Gambare to be a member of the Board of Directors of the National Museums of Kenya.
Gambare will serve for three (3) years, with effect from December 8, 2023.
ICT CS Eliud Owalo named Jacqueline Njeri Njuguna to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Konza Technopolis Development Authority, for three (3) years, with effect from December 8, 2023.
