Ruto Unveils New Cabinet Nominees

President William Ruto has unveiled his new Cabinet after the dismissal of former Cabinet Secretaries on July 11.

Ruto while addressing the nation on July 19 nominated only 11 CSs in the first batch and stated that consultations are ongoing after which he will announce more names in due course.

“Consequently, I have started the process of forming a new broad-based cabinet to assist in driving the urgently needed and irreversible transformation of our country,” Ruto said.

“I hereby nominate the following first batch of 11 individuals for consideration and approval by the National Assembly for appointment as Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General.”

Ruto has reappointed former Defence CS Aden Duale and Interior CS Kithure Kindiki back to their Ministries.

Former CS for Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry Rabecca Miano has been nominated as the Attorney General to replace Justin Muturi.

Deborah Mulongo Baraza has been nominated the CS for Health to replace Susan Nakhumicha, Alice Wahome has remained in her former position as the Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development.

Julius Ogamba who was the running mate for the former CS Ezekiel Machogu in the 2022 Kisii gubernatorial elections was proposed as the Education CS while Andrew Muhia Karanja as CS for Agriculture is set to take over the role of Mithika Linturi.

Soipan Tuya has been re- nominated to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry while the former Energy CS Davis Chirchir has been nominated to Roads and transport docket.

The Ministry of Information Communication and Digital Economy has Margaret Nyambura as the nominee taking over Eliud Owalo while Eric Murithi Muga has been nominated to the Ministry of Water and sanitation previously held by Zachariah Njeru.

Ruto said he will be issuing next week a clear road map on the assignment that the new cabinet is going to have with clear timelines and deliverables to harness the tremendous potentials in the country.

The remaining ministries yet to be assigned a CS include the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, ministry of Energy, and the Ministry of East African Community, The ASALs and Regional Developments.

Others include Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife that was headed by Alfred Mutua, Ministry of Public Service Performance, and Delivery Management and Ministry of Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage.

Also, the ministry of National Treasury and Planning, Youth Affairs and Sports, Labour and Social Protection, Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs are still vacant.

The Head of state said they are enhancing, broadening and deepening the national economic turnaround Plan set out in the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda to incorporate a wider range of ideas, programmes and interventions.

This in turn he said will facilitate job creation, robust debt management, enhanced transparency and accountability in the use of public resources and enhanced domestic resource mobilization and optimize public expenditure.

Ruto, after dissolving his cabinet stated that he would reconstitute a broad-based government composed of the political formations and other stakeholders.
