Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced hot spot areas that residents need to vacate as heavy rains and floods continue to wreak havoc in the county and its environs.
While addressing the Press on Tuesday April 24, Sakaja said an estimated 60,000 people mostly women and children in Nairobi have been severely affected following devastating flash floods which hit the city.
“Unfortunately, we have lost 4 lives, and the search is on to locate 6 others who have been reported missing,” Sakaja said.
“The following areas have been adversely affected, Fibra, Lindi, Mathare 4A and Mathare North, Baba Dogo, Githurai and Zimmerman.”
Sakaja said some of the adversely affected areas that have been mapped out by a Multi-agency Disaster Management team (waiting for info on more areas).
The listed areas include:
KASARANI
a) Gachieko in Ruai
b) Gituamba ni Ruai
c) Athi (lower Athi) in Ruai
d) Brookshine in Ruai
e) Budalangi in clay city
f) Mwengenye in Njiru
g) Infinity in Kasarani
h) Mwisho wa Lami in Mwiki
MATHARE
a) Mathare North area 1, area 2, Mathare north primary
b) Utallii 4A
c) Babadogo Laundry, Kasabuni, Gumba bridge
d) Lucky Summer along Ruaka river

KIBRA: Sarangombe ward
a) Gatwekera, sokomoko

However, the most affected areas in Kibra are Raila informal settlement with over 200 people living along Ngong river, Canaan and Undugu estate in High rise.

e) All areas in viwandani sub county along Ngong river
f) Flooding at Magunga court, Buruburu phase III
ROYSAMBU
a) Zimmerman ward-sidian. njathaini
b) Kahawa ward-Kongo. Budalangi, Bosnia, Giagishiri
c) Githurai ward -Rurie

Sakaja also said over five schools have been affected by the ongoing floods in Embakasi South Constituency.
