Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja has filed a defamation suit against popular blogger Cyprian Nyakundi over a social media post.
Sakaja, in court documents seen by The Kenya Times, accused Nyakundi of sharing a defamatory post and statement that was an unfair and baseless allegation on March 5, 2024.
Additionally, he argues that the statements made by the blogger have subjected him to untold anxiety, suffering, unwarranted ridicule, and shaming extreme harm to his reputation, tarnishing it the eyes of right-thinking members of the society.
“It’s deeply concerning that Nairobi County has not spent even a single cent on developments. Sakaja has looted Nairobi left, right, and centre as EACC etc. watch,” read part of the lawsuit,” Nyakundi said according to the lawsuit.
Sakaja Accuses Nyakundi of Defamation
Subsequently, the County boss alleges that Nyakundi’s post meant that the County Government of Nairobi has not spent a single cent on development and officers from the Ethic and Anti-Corruption Commission and the Directorate of Criminal Investigation have been collecting protection money from the County Government.

Furthermore, the court documents state that Nyakundi in his statements painted Sakaja as a thief.
“He is just good at riding on Dandora stadium, which was constructed by Governor Sonko…. The looting criminality at Sakaja’s office has never been seen before,” Nyakundi further said as presented in the court papers.
“Of late, if you are keen, you will realize that he even accepted that he is a thief and stopped doing the many PRS he used to do. Why would EACC and DCI allow to be pocketed by Sakaja?”

He further states that Nyakundi made the libelous allegations that he has looted over Ksh 3,000,000,000 and has used the looted proceeds to purchasing property in Kenya and abroad.
“That said X- post by the Defendant are baseless, unsubstantiated and unproven are only and couched meant to damage, defame the reputation of Hon. Sakaja Arthur Johnson and elicit a reaction from the public who he serves as their duly elected Governor,” the documents further read.
The Court directed Nyakundi within 15 days from the date of service hereof to enter an appearance in the said suit.
“Should you fail to enter an appearance within the time mentioned above, the Plaintiff may proceed with the suit and Judgement may be given in your absence, ” court documents read.
