Several people are feared dead following a grisly accident involving two personal cars along the Embu-Nairobi highway.
The collision happened on Sunday 21st, July 2024 at Murugara along Embu-Nairobi highway.
According to preliminary reports, the collision left several people dead, and one person injured who was rushed to Karira hospital.
In videos seen by The Kenya Times witnesses were captured helping to rescue those who were still trapped in the wreckage.
Police officers could also be seen present at the accident scene.
A tow-truck could also be seen removing the wreckages of the vehicles involved in the accident to clearway and allow for smooth flow of traffic in the highway.
By the time of publishing this article, the number of survivors and causalities had not yet been established.

Accident Along Embu-Nairobi Highway
The incident is among a number of crashes recently reported in the country.
At least twelve people lost their lives following a collision that occurred on Friday 12th July,2024 in Mwingi. A Mandera bound bus from Nairobi collided with a trailer along the Nairobi- Garissa Highway.
The conductor and driver of the bus, belonging to Makkah travels company, were among the individuals reported to have been among those who succumbed following the accident.
According to survivors, the driver of the bus was trying to overtake an unknown vehicle which sped off after the accident. The vehicle veered off its lane and rammed into the near side of a trailer ferrying gypsum.
Further, they said that the trailer had stalled on the road because of a mechanical problem.

NTSA Report
According, to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) 1,108 Kenyans have died in road accidents between January and April 1, 2024.
NTSA Road Safety Status report 2023 revealed that 2,080 fatalities were recorded in 2023/2024 as compared to 2,378 registered during the same period in the previous year.
According to the report, pedestrians recorded the highest number of deaths, 788 followed by motorcyclists, 55 and passengers, 324.
