SHA CEO Suspends 45 Hospitals with Immediate Effect (FULL LIST)

Social Health Authority (SHA) CEO Mercy Mwangangi has suspended 45 health facilities across the country, effective immediately, for engaging in fraudulent practices.

In a gazette notice dated Tuesday, August 26, the SHA CEO said the affected hospitals will not be entitled to any benefits, including reimbursements and payments, under the Social Health Insurance Act, 2023.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 48 (6) of the Social Health Insurance Act, 2023, the Social Health Authority hereby gives notice to the public of the suspension of the health facilities set out in the Schedule below,” read the notice in part.

“In accordance with the provisions of the Social Health Insurance Act, the health facilities set out in the Schedule shall not be entitled to any benefit from the Social Health Authority during the period of their suspension.”

The affected facilities span multiple counties, including Mandera, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Kisii, Garissa, Kakamega, Wajir, Nairobi, Turkana, Bungoma, Uasin Gishu, Kirinyaga, Meru, and Narok.

Among them are Grassroot Community Healthcare Ltd in Bungoma, Rachunyo Sub County hospital, Equity Afia, Lenmek Healthcare Annex in Kisii, Lumola Medical Clinic in Busia, Northgate Hospital Ltd in Garissa, and Westlife Hospital Ltd in Kisii, among others.

The suspension list also includes specialized centers such as Nyabondo Centre for the Disabled in Kisumu, Akemo Valley Maternity and Nursing Home, and Zonal Annexe 5 Maternity in Mandera.

Govt Suspends 40 Hospitals

This comes after Mwangangi in August 8, 2025, gazetted 40 hospitals suspended from the programme for engaging in fraudulent practices.

Among the facilities suspended by the Ministry of Health were Rachuonyo County Hospital in Homa Bay County, Salama Yard Medical Center in Nairobi County, Kotiende Homa Bay Center in Homa Bay, and Vebeneza Medical Centre Tassia in Nairobi.

The Webuye Hospital Limited in Bungoma, Nyatoto Health Centre in Homa Bay, and Zion Ahadi Mediclinic, Butere in Kakamega County were also featured in the list.

Other suspended hospitals included St. Mark Orthodox Hospital Chavakali in Vihiga, Oasis Doctors Plaza Kakamega Limited in Kakamega County, Tanaja Hospital Limited in Busia County, Brimaka Hospital Limited in Busia, Maxicare Sunrise Ltd Hospital in Bungoma, and Queen Rivers Medical Centre in Homa Bay.
