The Social Health Authority (SHA) has clarified a list circulating on social media that shows health facilities that received cash in July 2025.

In a statement on August 20, SHA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Mercy Mwangangi said SHA disbursed Ksh3.4 billion to health facilities across the country to settle claims under the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).

Mwangangi said the funds will cover inpatient care, drug and substance abuse treatment, mental wellness, critical care, and surgical procedures.

Further, Mwangangi stated that an additional Ksh1.09 billion has been disbursed from the Primary Health Care Fund, and an additional Ksh1.7 billion.

The Funds will be used in processing for dialysis, oncology and surgical claims.

An updated list of disbursements will be published on the SHA website in due course.

Response to Nyandiwa Level 4 Hospital Fund Claims

There have been claims on social media that Nyandiwa Level 4 hospital has not received any funds.

There are also claims that the Nyandiwa dispensary, which is currently closed, received Ksh10,080.

In response, Mwangangi clarified that Nyandiwa Level 4 Hospital received Ksh19 million.

She explained that the Funds are allocated for long-patient stays and maternity services from January to June 2025.

Mwangangi added that the facility has since confirmed receipt of the funds.

The Level 4 hospital has confirmed receipt of the funds. SHA remains committed to timely payments, accountability, and transparency.

Besides, a quick search by The Kenya Times showed that the two are different facilities, both in Suba South.

SHA Reviews & Disburses Claims

On July 14, SHA informed contracted Health Care Providers that they had reviewed and verified claims payments under Primary Health Care (PHC) and that the SHIF would be processed and disbursed on July 14th and 21st, 2025.

The Authority appreciated the Facilities for their continued partnership and commitment to providing quality health care services to our beneficiaries.

Changes in Overseas Treatment

Health CS Aden Duale recently announced that patients seeking overseas treatment will now need to wait an additional 30 days to receive clearance from the SHA.

Duale said the changes are meant to align the package with the law and allow for a system upgrade. 

The CS said the overseas package of Ksh500,000 will only cover treatments not accessible within the country.
