Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol breathed a sigh of relief after he survived impeachment following a report that upheld his removal from office.
Oduol was saved by 27 senators who voted against the report by the Senate Adhoc committee that gave nod for his impeachment.
However, out of the 47 senators, 16 voted in favor of the report seeking to send the Siaya Deputy Governor home.
Moreover, the battle to either uphold or crush the committee’s reports turned into a political situation between Azimio coalition and the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition.
This is after Kenya Kwanza Allied senators voted to save the embattled deputy governor from impeachment therefore stopping the attempt by the Siaya County Assembly to send him home.
“The net effect of this vote is that pursuant to Article 181 of the Constitution, Section 33(8) of the County Government Act and Standing Order 87 of the Senate Standing Orders, the Senate has failed to remove from office by impeachment William Oduol, the Deputy Governor of Siaya County,” Senate Speaker Amason Kingi ruled.
The Senate Adhoc Committee William Oduol guilty of gross violation of the constitution and abuse of office out of the four charges levelled against him.
