Former Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Sicily Kariuki has advised incoming Cabinet Secretaries to discharge their roles with precision and integrity without seeking direction from the president or his deputy.
The former CS added that the new team is expected to direct the head of state and his deputy by providing solutions on how they will deliver promises made to Kenyans.
“Cabinet is not a place where your boss, the President, tells you what to do. It is for you to be discerning and unpack his expectations of you because he has given you the latitudes to make decisions for as long as it is to advance the welfare of Kenyans,” Ms. Kariuki stated.
In addition, Sicily Kariuki encouraged the CSs to embrace the opportunity they have been granted to serve Kenyans in their capacities. She then urged them to familiarize and materialize with their mandated dockets to execute their duties with mastery.
“I really would like to encourage these 22 nominees to be extremely excited. I want them to live the moment and be happy at what is unfolding around their spaces 22 people out of 50 million Kenyans is nothing mean,” she noted.

“I want to believe that they are busy preparing themselves for the vetting processes which are ahead and by so doing is by consulting so that the dockets to which they have been nominated they almost appear to be subject experts and not let down the nominating authority,” she added.
Furthermore, Sicily Kariuki stated that as the new Cabinet Secretaries move into office, they should ask themselves what part of President Ruto’s legacy they want to be remembered for.
Nonetheless, Ms. Kariuki served in cabinet from 2015 starting as Cabinet Secretary for Health and later to the Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation ministry.
