Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has refuted reports that politicians are influencing the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Presidential and Council elections.
Sifuna was speaking on February 29, 2024, outside the Milimani Law Courts Ceremonial Hall shortly after casting his vote for the ongoing LSK elections.
“It’s election day at the LSK. As a proud member and former council member, I have done my part today and wish the incoming leadership all the best,” he said.
The senator went on to explain why some politicians, including him, have publicly endorsed different presidential aspirants who are looking forward to succeeding outgoing President Eric Theuri.
According to him, the Law Society and politics are two different factions that have a very thin line between them.
“As I have told you I am a former LSK council member and an elected Senator for Nairobi County,” he said.
He further stated that giving an opinion about a Presidential candidate didn’t mean that his political party endorsed them.
“It just means that there are politicians who practice Law, and we have a right to say who we have endorsed,” he added.

Sifuna on endorsing Odhiambo
The Nairobi Senator affirmed his endorsement for current LSK Vice President Faith Odhiambo saying that he believes that she is the best placed candidate for the job.
Five candidates are battling it out for the presidential seat and the successful candidate will become the 51st individual to assume the powerful role since the society’s inception.
Odhiambo is among the five candidates looking forward to succeeding outgoing President Eric Theuri.
Theuri is also seeking to be elected as the male representative to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) alongside Omwanza Ombati.

Faith is a lecturer at the University of Nairobi (UON) School of Law where she teaches Law of Business Associations, Banking Law, Competition Law and Consumer Protection Law.
The University of Kent (UK) and UON alumnus is also a former Board Secretary of the Federation of Women Lawyers-Kenya.
Odhiambo was admitted to the bar in 2011 with her leadership journey commencing when she was elected to the national council in 2020.
Besides Sifuna, Faith received a shot in the arm after getting endorsements from key legal and political figures including Azimio leader Raila Odinga and senior counsels Otiende Amollo, Wilfred Nderitu and Ambrose Rachier.
