Six members of the Al-Shabaab militant group have been killed in a crossfire with military personnel.
The clash occurred in Sarira, in the lower part of the Northeastern Region (NER) where officers had been deployed to heighten security.
According to the Counter Terrorism and Security Intelligence briefs, the operation was executed by a Kenya Military Long Range Surveillance (LRS) unit.
Additionally, the operation also resulted in approximately nine others being injured during the gunfire.

The Kenyan military has continued to ramp up operations in response to the security challenges in the area.
Specifically, the LRS units have been tasked with gathering intelligence and conducting surveillance in remote areas, allowing them to anticipate and neutralize threats effectively.
However, cases of terrorism have continued in the region with several deaths being reported in the past months.
Gun Men Spray Bus with Bullets
On September 3, gunmen sprayed a bus with bullets along the Moyale-Marsabit highway in Moyale, Marsabit County.
Consequently, one person died, and several others were left injured.
According to witnesses, the gunmen opened fire, spraying bullets that burst a tire and shattered windows.
The Salama Bus was attacked between Bori Junction and Dadach Lakole while it was headed from Moyale to Nairobi.
On the other hand, six passengers and a driver were killed on August 13 after armed men set a lorry on fire at Eledimtu along the Forolle-Turbi Road in Marsabit.

Police reported that the incident occurred just a few kilometers from the Ethiopian border at around 9 p.m.
Further, the police statement noted that a minor who was among the passengers managed to escape and reported the incident.
According to the report, the victims were transporting food from the border town to other parts of the country when they were ambushed.
Earlier Al-Shabaab Attacks
Earlier, on July 12, four security officers were killed in an attack by suspected Al-Shabaab militants in Mandera County.
This followed another suspected Al-Shabaab attack on April 29 in Elwak Town, where ten people were killed by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
On March 25, two police officers were among three people killed in a terrorist attack in Mandera town.
Police Commissioner Alex Mbuvi Munguti from Mandera Police Station and his counterpart Cyprian Kuta from QRU Arabia died after an explosion at Fish Point Hotel.
