BOC Kenya has announced the resignation of Standard Group CEO Marion Gathoga-Mwangi as a Non-Executive Director effective June 28, 2024.
Mrs. Gathoga-Mwangi has been an influential figure within the company, having served as the Managing Director of BOC Kenya from July 2018 to December 2021.
After stepping down as Managing Director, she transitioned to an executive role with African Oxygen (Pty) Limited in South Africa, another Linde Group company, but remained on the board of BOC Kenya as a Non-Executive Director.
The Chairman and the Board of Directors expressed their gratitude for Mrs. Gathoga-Mwangi’s dedication and significant contributions to BOC Kenya.
“We thank Mrs. Gathoga-Mwangi for her commitment and invaluable contributions to the company and the board. We wish her the very best in her future endeavors,” said the Company Secretary Ms. R.T. Ngobi.

Standard Group CEO Appointment
The Standard Group’s Board of Directors appointed Ms. Marion Gathoga-Mwangi as the new Chief Executive Officer, effective July 15, 2024.
She succeeds Joe Munene, who has served as interim CEO since July 6, 2023.
Ms. Gathoga-Mwangi brings over 26 years of extensive experience in commercial operations, operations excellence, and general management across various sectors.
Prior to her appointment, she held key executive roles at The Linde Group companies, including African Oxygen Pty (AFROX) and BOC Kenya.
At these companies, she served as Healthcare Director, leading access to medical gases in Africa, Business Unit Director of Bulk and Onsite Manufacturing Business in South Africa, and Managing Director, respectively.
Previous Positions
Ms. Gathoga-Mwangi has also held senior leadership positions at Cadbury Kenya and East Africa Limited, Unga Limited (Seaboard Corporation), and Parmalat Botswana Pty in Gaborone, Botswana.

Additionally, she serves as a Non-Executive Director at several leading companies, including BAT Kenya and the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM).
Ms. Gathoga-Mwangi earned a Bachelor of Science (Honors) degree in International Business Administration from the United States International University (USIU) Kenya.
She is a practitioner of Continuous Improvement (KAIZEN) and has successfully led corporate turnarounds using this expertise.
She is also a part-time Academic Director of the Women in Leadership program at Strathmore Business School (SBS).
