Members of the Dutch Parliament from various parties have pledged to take action over a petition submitted by Kenyans, urging the Netherlands to reconsider the upcoming Dutch royal visit to Kenya.
The petition, signed by 22,400 supporting individuals, seeks the cancellation of a visit by His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima.
On Tuesday, March 4, the petition was officially submitted to the Dutch Parliament.
Located at the Hague, the Dutch Parliament, heard about the cases of human rights violations under President William Ruto’s administration.
Moreover, Kenyans called on the Dutch government to take a firm stance against abuses rather than legitimizing the current regime through a state visit.

Netherlands MPs reveal Next Move
Several Dutch MPs have already supported the petition, vowing to push the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Caspar Veldkamp, to address the matter urgently.
Consequently, the issue is now on the Dutch parliamentary agenda and will be a point of discussion in the following days.
Meanwhile, activists in Kenya and the diaspora continue to mobilize support, framing the royal visit as an endorsement of state repression.
Online, the hashtags #JusticeForKenyans and #Accountability continue to gain traction, with Kenyans sharing accounts of police brutality and economic hardships under the Ruto administration.
Earlier, in January, a section of Kenyans flooded the email of the Royal House of Netherlands after it announced that the King and Queen were scheduled for a state visit between Tuesday, March 18, and Thursday, March 20.
According to the Royal House, the visit is intended to strengthen existing ties and establish new partnerships across various sectors.
In response to the announcement, whistleblower Nelson Amenya, known for his role in the JKIA-Adani exposé, shared contact details and email addresses, urging Kenyans to “send their greetings” to the Royal couple, pressuring them to cancel the visit.

Details of the King and Queen’s Visit to Kenya
The Dutch Royal House announced that the economic missions focusing on sustainable agriculture and water will run alongside the King and Queen’s state visit.
Earlier, the Dutch government invited companies, financial organizations, and research institutions involved in sustainable agriculture, horticulture, and water management to apply for participation.
During the trade mission, these companies will explore emerging opportunities and developments in these sectors.
