The Family of the late Tom Adala, who was a top National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer, will hold a fundraiser following his tragic death on June 4.

According to the family’s announcement in a published obituary, the fundraiser will take place at All Saints Cathedral on Monday, June 10 at 5:00 PM.

Thereafter, the family has scheduled a memorial service which will be held at the same venue on Thursday, June 13, 2024.

Tom Timothy Mboya Adala, whose body is lying at the Lee Funeral Home, will be buried at his Muhoroni home on Saturday, June 15, 2024. He is survived by three children and his wife Habiba Seby.

Tom Adala was reported dead by police on Tuesday, June 4, after his lifeless body was found lying at the servant’s quatres of his Kilimani residence in Nairobi.

Additionally, the police report indicated that the Intelligence officer took his own life by shooting himself using a pistol on the right side of the head, which exited on his left side.

Consequently, a Glock 19 pistol s/no kg 589, was recovered with 1 spent cartridge and a magazine loaded with 3 rounds at the scene.

“In his bedroom, another spare magazine was recovered loaded with 13 rounds,” read the police report.

Furthermore, a black notebook was discovered next to his body. In the book, Adala complained about his marital issues stating that nobody should be blamed for his death.

Also, he asked that his children who live with his estranged wife be visiting his grave when he is gone.

According to preliminary reports, he had separated with his wife and the couple was going through a divorce.

On the day of his death, Francis Oduor, Tom Adala’s nephew, searched for him within their vast house, including upstairs where he usually slept.

Eventually, Oduor discovered his uncle’s lifeless body inside the servant quarter and informed his family, who immediately notified the police.

Friends and family Mourn the late NIS Officer

Former Trade and Industry Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) David Osiany has penned a moving tribute to Adala, describing him as a dependable, loving, and loyal person to his friends, and to the country.

“He was a rare gem. In a world where many selfish people occupy critical roles for self-aggrandizement, Adala served with utmost honesty and zeal, keeping his eye on the prize: a better nation,” he stated.

At the same time, former UN envoy to Kenya Martin Kimani mourned Adala, recalling how diligent he was at his work while they were colleagues at the National Counter Terrorism Centre.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Tom Adala. He played a crucial role in the design and rollout of the landmark National Strategy to Prevent and Counter Violent Extremism.

“As his director at National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), it was gratifying to witness his growth into a confident and assured professional. Tom’s dedication and spirit will be greatly missed. May he find the peace he sought,” Kimani said.

His family has described him as a man with friends of all walks of life adding that they will greatly miss him.
