Tragic Accident on Narok-Bomet Road Kills 6 People, Injures 23

A tragic accident occurred at the Olonin Bridge area along Narok-Bomet Road at around 6:00 p.m., resulting in the death of six people and the injury of twenty-three others.

In an OB report seen by The Kenya Times, the police stated that a school bus belonging to Mesabisabi Secondary School overtook a fleet of vehicles without due care, leading to a head-on collision with an oncoming matatu travelling from Bomet.

The matatu was carrying an unknown number of passengers, and it was raining at the time.

“It happened that a matatu, registration number KDL610S, belonging to Narok Line Service Sacco and driven by Peter Kungu Njenga, was travelling from Bomet toward Narok, carrying an unknown number of passengers,” the OB report read in part.

“It was raining. Upon reaching the scene of the accident, a school bus, registration number KDG 969C, driven by Dennis Ongeri of Mesabisabi Secondary School, overtook a fleet of unknown vehicles without due care and attention to other road users. This led to a head-on collision with the oncoming matatu on the bridge.”

According to the police, sixteen people were seriously injured and ten others suffered slight injuries. They were evacuated from the accident scene to Ololulunga Sub-County Hospital, where two unknown women and a girl succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.

The deceased have been taken to Narok County Referral Hospital Mortuary for preservation, pending identification and autopsy.

Police further reported that both vehicles had been towed to the station for inspection.

It was also established that the school bus driver fled the scene after the accident.

Elsewhere another accident occurred on the same route where a woman tragically died on Saturday morning, and three others were injured in a collision between a Toyota vehicle and a bus at Tegero area on the Narok-Bomet Road.

According to police reports, the accident occurred at around 4 a.m. when the driver of the Toyota Ist, travelling toward Narok, lost control of the vehicle, swerving into the opposite lane and colliding head-on with an Easy Coach bus heading in the other direction.

Fortunately, none of the bus passengers were harmed and the injured individuals were taken to Narok County Referral Hospital for medical attention, while the deceased was transferred to the hospital’s morgue.
