The Office of the Registrar (Academics) at the Technical University of Kenya (TUK) has warned that students risk mandatory deferment for up to two academic years if they fail to sign the Nominal Roll or fall short of the required class attendance.
The warning comes as the university enhances strict compliance with academic regulations ahead of the end-of-semester examinations scheduled to begin on November 24 and run through December 13, 2025.
In the notice dated September 2025 and signed by Dr. Moses Wamalwa, the Registrar Academic, students were reminded that signing the Nominal Roll is a mandatory and non-negotiable requirement for exam eligibility.
The deadline to complete the process is Friday, September 26, 2025.
“Failure to comply by the stated deadline will result in the mandatory deferment of studies for a period of not less than one academic year and up to two academic years,” the notice warns. “No exceptions will be granted.”
TUK 75% Class Attendance Policy
Students must also maintain a minimum attendance of 75% in each registered course unit to qualify for examinations.
The Nominal Roll serves as the official student register for the semester and is also used to verify class attendance through the TUsoft system.

Students who fail to sign it will not be included on the official class lists, effectively disqualifying them from end-of-semester exams.
The semester runs from September 1 to December 13, 2025, and university officials are urging students to act swiftly to avoid academic disruptions.
Clear Your School Fees
The university has also tied eligibility for signing the Nominal Roll to full fee payment.
Students are required to clear their semester fees in full at the beginning of the semester.
For those on an installment plan, the first installment of 60% of total fees must be paid by September 26, while the remaining 40% is due by the eighth week of the semester.

Failure to clear outstanding fees, the notice states, will result in a denial of access to university services, including the ability to sign the Nominal Roll.

The university further urged students to treat the notice with urgency.
“You are therefore strongly advised to treat this notice with the utmost seriousness and take immediate action to ensure full compliance,” Dr. Wamalwa stated.
