The proposed Nairobi River Regeneration is the main engineering phase of Climate WorX and focuses on waste management systems to improve the environment.
Apart from the housing program which will be spread across the city, all other projects will take place along the 27.2 Kms along Nairobi River.

Naivasha road to Dandora falls in phase one of the program while Mathare and Ngong river will be in phase two.
It involves construction of 54 kilometers of new trunk sewer line along Nairobi River to prevent raw sewers from contaminating the waters.

Removal of solid waste, unclogging the rivers and construction of weir dams for control of water levels are also key goals of the program.
River widening and deepening for flood control is also among the agendas of the exercise.

The program also aims to construct over 50,000 social housing units along the waterfront and wetlands to assist in water cleaning and purification.
Other Projected Goals of Nairobi River Program
Additionally, there will be construction of Community parks, halls, public toilets, walkways and cycle lanes along the rivers.
It also aims to construct modern markets for traders, 44 no vehicular and pedestrian bridges.
Other key projects include electrification of the walkways and parks as well as rehabilitation of Dandora dumpsite.
Further, the program will expand the wastewater treatment plant at Kariobangi for sewer treatment.
The program will also plant trees along riverbanks to combat soil erosion and enhance biodiversity.

Climate Work Benefits
So far, the Climate worX program has led to the rejuvenation of neglected green spaces and transformation of riparian lands into productive spaces.
The waste management projects have contributed to a cleaner, healthier environment.
The program has also promoted a strong sense of community pride and Unity since people collaborate to address shared environmental challenges
Besides, community spaces, safe playgrounds and clean family excursion zones are now available within areas with large populations.

There is also a growing dignity and esteem in the communities because of more sanitary environments.
Climate WorX has also impacted the youth, particularly those in slums areas where job opportunities are limited.
It has provided direct employment for thousands of young people and empowered youth through leadership opportunities.
The program has created pathways for entrepreneurship where youth are encouraged to develop green businesses around waste management and tree planting.
