Azimio La Umoja insider Professor Makau Mutua has faced criticism from a section of Kenyans online following his statement urging leaders within the coalition to leave.
Mutua issued the statement on Monday, December 11 targeting leaders in the coalition party who do not support the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report.
“Azimio isn’t a forced marriage. Please leave if you can’t support the NADCO report,” Mutua noted on his X account.
In addition, the former SUNY Buffalo School of Law dean went on to emphasize that the report is a product of the party’s democratic processes.

As a result, a section of netizens went on to share their sentiments over Mutua’s remarks, with majority of them disagreeing with the professor.
One user who seemed to be angered by Mutua’s statement went on to ask him to shift camp and join Kenya Kwanza.
Gitonga noted, “What’s wrong with you? If you want to shift camp and join KK like Atwoli just go quietly, please. Kenyans are struggling under this regime whereas you are stirring the wrong nest.”
On the other hand, Victor Oria went on to describe the report as useless, claiming that Azimio should instead focus oversighting the government.

“Azimio should use its resources checking and calling out this government instead of spending time in boardrooms,” said Oria.
Additionally, X user Evans Mwanzu reacted to the statement claiming that Mutua makes his sentiments from the United States adding that he doesn’t know what Kenyans are going through.
Another user went on to pose a question on the statement asking if Mutua was addressing one of the coalition’s chief principals.
Captain Korir posed, “Are you talking to Martha Karua?”
Azimio Division Over NADCO Report
Also, another netizen hinted out at whom the statement by Mutua could be aimed at noting that they would not leave Azimio.
“We know you want Karua out. However, like a married Kamba lady, she will not leave that marriage even if you cheat or do all sorts of drama,” noted Pearl Marsha Sr.
Notably, the Narc Kenya leader was among a section of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition leaders who expressed their disapproval of the report released in November.
Karua disagreed with the report terming it a fraud.

“Any purported agreement that does not immediately impact on cost of living, electoral justice and respect for multiparty democracy is a fraud on the people and must be rejected,” she said.
Additionally, former Cabinet Secretary and DAP-Kenya party leader Eugene Wamalwa also claimed that he hadn’t and would not append his signature to the report.
Both leaders strongly rejected the report claiming that it has not addressed ‘important issues affecting Kenyans’, with the cost of living being the main issue of concern.
