The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released a seven-day weather outlook for the period between 14th and 20th January 2025. According to Kenya Met, the country should expect dry and sunny conditions, chilly nights and scorching days.
However, a few areas in the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi, Lake Victoria Basin, South Rift Valley and the South-eastern lowlands may receive occasional rainfall towards the end of the forecast period.
The Coast, Northeastern, Northwestern, parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and Southeastern Lowlands will experience average daytime (maximum) temperatures exceeding 30°C.
Night-time minimum temperatures will fall below 10°C in some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, Central and South Rift Valley, and Southeastern Lowlands.
Weather Forecast for Nairobi & its Environs
Daylong sunny intervals are expected to prevail throughout the forecast period in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi County.
However, a few areas are likely to experience morning rains and late afternoon showers towards the end of the forecast period.
Nights are expected to be partly cloudy, though a few areas may experience showers towards the end of the forecast period.
Other counties in this region include Nyandarua, Nyeri, Laikipia, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Tharaka-Nithi.
Lake Victoria Basin & Parts of Rift Valley
Similarly, mainly sunny intervals are expected to prevail during the day at the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and South Rift Valley and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley.
However, a few areas are likely to receive morning rains and late afternoon showers and thunderstorms towards the end of the forecast period.
Nights are expected to be partly cloudy though a few areas in Narok may experience showers towards the end of the forecast period.
Counties in these regions include Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori and Narok Counties.
North Rift Valley
Sunny intervals are expected during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy in Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Baringo and West-Pokot Counties.
Turkana and Samburu Counties will experience sunny conditions during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.
Northeastern
Sunny intervals are expected during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy in northeastern Kenya.
This includes Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo counties.

Southeastern
The South-eastern lowlands will experience mainly sunny intervals during the day.
A few areas are likely to experience morning rains and late afternoon showers towards the end of the forecast period.
The nights are expected to be partly cloudy, with some areas possibly experiencing showers as the period concludes.
The region covers the following counties: Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita-Taveta counties, as well as the inland parts of Tana River County.

Coast
The Coast will experience mainly sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy nights.
However, a few areas may have occasional light morning showers, which may extend into the early afternoon.
This region includes Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale Counties, along with the coastal parts of Tana River County.
