Western hypocrisy on Yemen War, and why it’s getting more violent

Civilian Deaths In The Thousands Have Reportedly Been The Result Of Saudi-Led Coalition Air Strikes

Civilian deaths in the thousands have reportedly been the result of Saudi-led coalition air strikes

The war in Yemen will enter its eighth year this week with civilian casualties on the rise and unstoppable inflation, while the West cries crocodile tears over Ukraine, and they continue to bomb and starve Yemen.

Saudi & UAE fighter jets just recently bombed Sana’a international airport.

Where is the EU? Where are their sanctions, where are their condemnation? Is their humanitarian act only for Europe? Why?

If you’re outraged by baby strollers in Ukraine and not starving babies in Yemen, you’re a fake humanitarian!

There are 21 million people needing aid in Yemen during the last 7 years of war, showing no signs of it in sight. Every 10 minutes, a Yemeni child dies but have the media never bothered to shine a spotlight, or covered the Yemeni war

Media Bias

There has been absolute media bias in covering global conflicts, such as the current Russia Ukraine war, while ignoring other conflicts like the war in Yemen.

One can only wish the media’s involvement in trying to cover the situation in Yemen, the same way it is now covering the horrific imperialist Russian invasion of Ukraine.

This Saudi-UAE led, with massive U.S backing and support, war and siege on Yemen is undoubtedly, one of the biggest humanitarian catastrophes in the world.

With over 400 000 people killed, 14,5 million are currently at the point of starvation.

United States has asked Saudi Arabie now to produce more oil, as the oil needs rise, and the Saudis insist on continuing its massacres in Yemen without any response from the United States.

Angelina Jolie

Recently, Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie visited Yemen to bring attention to the country’s humanitarian crisis; 17.4 million people are food insecure in Yemen — a situation the World Food Program (WFP) says immediate funding is needed to save lives.

United States can stop this genocidal war right now. Instead, it has enabled it for over 7 years, causing hundreds of thousands of deaths so far.

Curiously, I’ve never seen media and political class people proudly donning Ukraine flags in their name doing it for Yemen, a war their government allows.

Multiple Videos on social media are difficult to watch, but it gives a glimpse into the unimaginable genocidal horrors the U.S and the west more generally have been inflicting on Yemen for years. as is noted at the end: “the UN says Yemenis are not starving, they are being starved”

Yemen Problems

Unfortunately, Yemen is surrounded by many major problems; the cholera pandemic has been going on since around 2016, and it continues to get worse every day due to lack of public health sectors and aid, as well as the continued Saudi led airstrikes on water systems and food infrastructure.

The famine in Yemen is said to become the worst one in 100 years and it continues to get worse every day due to the poor funding and Saudi intervention (with the support of us, the UK & France).

Nearly half the population will soon be dependent on aid.

Houthi Rebels

On other hand, civil war started when the Houthis (backed by Iran) rebelled against the government and began to seize territories (taking over the capital Sana’a). to get the Houthis out, Saudi began bombing Yemen and thus the conflict worsened

Saudi Arabia (with the support of US, the UK, and France) has been bombing Yemen to get rid of the Houthi rebels.

This has led to the deterioration of Yemen’s situation, as well as the death of many civilians as they target public infrastructure, water systems, schools, and many other public sectors.

Corona worsened the situation; there aren’t many testing kits; and hospitals aren’t equipped enough to deal with it. Necessities such as masks and gloves are a rare commodity or aren’t even available.

With the recent natural disaster flood, Yemen has witnessed torn down homes, destroyed food supplies, spread of diseases and deaths; the country is probably going through as plague; it seems to have come after the floods, and has people are dropping dead. No one can explain why this is happening, as they still haven’t found the cause, but it primarily affects your lungs.

Effect of Yemen’s war on Economy

Since the start of the civil war in 2015 economic crisis begin, Yemen’s economy contracted by 50% due to the inflation and devaluation of the rial. People are hungry because of poverty and lack of jobs, and while you could potentially flee war, you can’t flee hunger.

The Saudi military coalition currently has a blockade on Yemen’s sea, air & land ports which stops aid from coming in. Though they eased it a little, it’s still there and having catastrophic effects on the situation

Here’s more stuff that’s happening in Yemen

– No water & electricity

– High poverty rates

– Food prices are too expensive

– Multiple serious diseases e.g. meningitis

– ISIS & Al Qaeda have carried out attacks

– Corruption

As a Pakistani, I am glad that Pakistan made the best decision when Saudi Arabia requested Pakistan to take part in the war in Yemen and told them to also send their army which was discussed in the House of Representatives of Pakistan.

They refused to be part of the war in Yemen; it was certainly a positive decision that humanity still appreciates.
