Why Princess of Wales Kate Hiding in Ol Pejeta, Kenya is Trending

Kenyans online could not hide their excitement from the news that the Princess of Wales was in Kenya.

The Princess of Wales and wife to Prince William of Wales Kate Middleton has been trending in Kenya, particularly on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) after unconfirmed reports indicated that she was in the country.

These unconfirmed reports have since seen the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, which is located in Laikipia County, trend after they claimed that she was spotted particularly in the conservancy.

In their reactions, Kenyans online could not hide their excitement with the reports that were accompanied by unverified photos.

In one of the photos seen by The Kenya Times, a smiling lady resembling Kate Middleton and wearing black can be seen in a green Tour Rover being driven in a grassy environment resembling a game park.

In addition, the lady can be seen enjoying the moment with other tourists as they take photos inside the Rover.

Another different photo showed a lady resembling Kate wearing blue enjoying the scene of a hyena inside a conservancy.

However, the lady in the second photo was wearing a different attire from the one in the first photo, and there was no resemblance of the two tourist vehicles in the two pictures.

These additional sightings have left many fans and followers speculating if Kate could really be in Kenya.

Reactions about Kate Hiding in Kenya

The photos and reports that have since gone viral were accompanied by speculations from online users.

Some went on to claim that she is in ‘hiding’, while others took the chance to praise Kenya as a tourism powerhouse which saw the phrase ‘Magical Kenya’ trend.

“As speculation mounts, Kenya positions itself as the ultimate retreat for royalty and travelers alike. Kate Hiding in Kenya. Magical Kenya. Ol Pejeta,” posted a user named Gerald Ngao tweeted earlier.

One user further went on to attach a screenshot of an article from the Daily Mail (UK) which covered about the same news about the Princess, suggesting that she had gone into hiding.

“Kate Middleton’s visit to Ol Pejeta reveals her appreciation for the beauty of Magical Kenya, attracting interest from royal visitors globally. Kate Hiding in Kenya,” he posted attaching a Daily Mail Online article.

The heading of the article dated March 16, 2024, read ‘Has Kate Resurfaced a Continent away from William? Kate Middleton spotted in Kenyan hideaway at 62,000-acre former Colonial Conservancy owned by close Royal Pals the Craig’s… Is she in Hiding?’

However, a spot check by The Kenya Times confirmed that the purported article by Daily Mail was fake.

By the time of publishing this article, the original Daily Mail platform did not have any article with news the same news.

During the spot check, we confirmed that publication has different article categories of various members of the Royal family.

In addition, the publication has a repository that classifies all stories covered about members of the Royal family, each on every member’s page.

It is from the individual pages that every related story and news Daily Mail has run about different members of the Royal Family, including King Charles III, is displayed.

Upon conducting the spot check by visiting Kate Middleton’s related topics page on the Daily Mail, we confirmed that there was no such story of her being spotted in Kenya.

The only article dated March 16, 2024, concerning the Princess of Wales which was completely different covered Kate and Sophie Duchess of Edinburgh being friends in fashion.

As the trend about the unconfirmed new continues, some Kenyans also took the chance to address the fact that Kate and her husband Prince William got engaged in Kenya.

The Prince of Wales proposed to Middleton back in October 2010, near the foothills of Mount Kenya, going on to marry in 2011.

Middleton, who grew up in Berkshire, United Kingdom, studied art history at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where she first met her future husband.

The 42-year-old is the patron of several charitable and military organizations and is known for her impact on British and American fashion, popularly referred to as the ‘Kate Middleton effect’.
