Justice Oscar Angote is one of the pioneer Judges of the Environment and Land Court, having been appointed on 3rd October, 2012. He was posted to Malindi, where he worked from November 2012 to December 2016. Then, in January 2017, he was transferred to the Environment and Land Court, Machakos, where he was stationed as a single Judge until August 2021, when he was transferred to Milimani in Nairobi.
Oscar Amugo Angote has authored and published several Articles in his area of specialty, including Environmental Litigation in Kenya: A Call for Reforms; The Land Control Board Consent and the Doctrine of Constructive Trust; Evictions in Kenya: Which Way Under the New Constitution and the Land Laws (Amendment) Act, amongst others.

On January 12, 2026, Justice Angote appeared before the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) as a candidate for the position of Judge of the Court of Appeal.
Early Life and Educational Background of Oscar Angote
Oscar Angote is an alumnus of Mupeli Primary School and Chesamisi High School, where he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, respectively.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Nairobi, obtained in 1999, and a Master of Laws (LLM) in Environmental Law from the same university, obtained in 2018.
In 2001, he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law before being admitted to the bar.

Oscar Angote was admitted to the Roll of Advocates in 2001.
2022 to date- he serves as the Principal Judge of the Environment and Land Court, supervising the operations of the court in the country. In addition to being the Presiding Judge of the court, he handles disputes related to land and the environment.
2012 to date- he is the Judge of the Environment and Land Court.
2007- 2012 – he was the Attorney at the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission in the asset recovery department, instituting and prosecuting civil cases across the country to recover illegally acquired public land.
2006- 2007- Angote was a Partner at Kiogora Mutai & Company Advocates
2004- 2005- Oscar Angote served as an Associate at the Ndung’u Njoroge & Kwach Advocates
2001- 2003- He served as an Associate at the Kiogora Mutai & Company Advocates
The Judge has also been involved in the training of Magistrates and Judges.
