Man Killed By Thugs While Defending Girlfriend

A 35-year-old man was on Sunday murdered while trying to save his girlfriend from three armed thugs who were ransacking her car.

The incident happened at Winners apartments in Ruiru.

According to police,  the two had arrived  home after a night out at Ashaki grill in Thome Estate.

Three assailants  trailed the couple before confronting  them when they arrived at their apartment.

The couple had arrived home in  separate vehicles at around 4:30 am.

Samuel Wafula, a guard at the apartment  told detectives that the woman entered  the gate  first followed by the boyfriend  who was driving a salon car.

“Three men forced their way inside, went straight to Winfred’s vehicle and began ransacking it”.

“As the deceased was parking his vehicle, he saw the thugs confronting Winfred and went to her aid, wielding a rungu,” he said.

The armed thugs opened fire and shot the man on his abdomen before fleeing the scene

The deceased was rushed to RFH hospital in Ruiru by his neighbours .

He succumbed  while undergoing treatment.

Crime scene detectives based at Thika recovered two spent cartridges of 9mm caliber at the scene.

Detectives recorded statements from the deceased man’s girlfriend, the  apartment guard and neighours.

“Investigations into the early morning murder have since been launched”

“Detectives are following crucial leads to unravel the suspects behind the murder most foul,” Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said in a statement.
