A family from Kongoni village in Likuyani Sub County is pleading to the government to help it rescue their daughter, who is being detained in Dubai amid alleged torture after being tricked into the foreign country in a bid to get employment.
According to Mr. Samuel Kibienda and his wife Roseline Wabamba, their daughter Noreen Kang’asi left the country towards the end of March this year for Dubai in company of her two friends whom she met in Nairobi, but their ordeal began a month later after they failed to secure the job as promised by the trustee agent who organized their flight.
Landing in Dubai
The mother said after landing in Dubai communication between them was cut until mid-June when their daughter got back to them briefly informing them the predicament they were going through after failing to secure the promised job and they were being mistreated and even denied food for several days.
“She first left for training in Nairobi before proceeding to Dubai and worked for one month, but it later emerged that she and her friends could not be paid since their Visa was only to last for one month. I wonder how the trusted agents could mess up and leave genuine Kenyans to suffer and yet they were to work for two years,” said Mr. Kibienda.
The parents said their daughter pleaded with them to help her secure her flight back in the country of which they struggled and managed to raise money to facilitate her journey back and she was supposed to travel on August 15th, 2022, but she didn’t travel.
“We communicated with her on August 15th, 2022, at around 10am and she assured us that she has had booked the flight and she could fly in the evening,” said the mother.
After the communication, they said their daughter went off again and she could not be reached for more than two weeks leaving them worried until on September 3rd, 2022, when she last communicated informing them that she was arrested at the airport where she had gone to board a plane back home and detained for allegedly being in the country illegally. She also complained of being mistreated under police custody.
Unlawful Detention
“She is being detained unlawfully and being frustrated. Our worry is her safety, yet she left home in search of greener pastures,” they further noted.
Now the parents are calling on the Kenyan government to intervene and help them save their daughter and ensure she returns home safely.
They have also emphasized that other girls who intend to work abroad, remain in their country and look for other available jobs so as to sustain their needs.
