Ekuru Aukot has said he will challenge Raila Odinga’s clearance by IEBC to run for presidency.
The Thirdway Alliance party leader made this remarks shortly after the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission disqualified him from the August 9 presidential race
According to IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, Aukot did not submit signatures and copies of national identity cards of 48,000 registered voters who endorsed his presidential bid.
Moreover, Mr. Aukot promised to challenge the ID and signature requirements for presidential candidates as well as Raila Odinga’s candidature at the polls.
According to Aukot, Azimio’s presidential candidate has been sponsored by the State, thence, the use of government resources in financing his bid.
He said he will file the petition at the High Court on Monday, June 6.
This move by the Thirdway Alliance Party boss will not be his first attempt to scuttle Raila’s political ambitions. In April this year Aukot wanted Mr. Odinga barred from vying for presidency on grounds that he is still a public servant.
Together with the Thirdway Alliance chairman Miruru Waweru, Aukot filed a joint petition arguing that Raila Odinga is a lifetime public servant and cannot resign to run for elective posts as other public officers.
